Account setup that ate an hour — could be smoother

App & Portal

entered the activation code, filled in the form, clicked sign up and then… the site dumped me with a message that I’d taken too long. Okay, fair enough, maybe I dawdled, but it logged me out without telling me what state my account was in. So I call for help.
I got bounced around. I called one number, then another, and then another — each time having to explain the whole story from the top, which I did, and then again, and again. You end up feeling like you’re repeating yourself to a wall. The voice prompts and the fast-fire "for technical help call this number" messages are useless if you can't jot them down quickly. That in itself is annoying because I was on my lunch break and every minute counts.
When I finally reached a person who sounded like they were trying, they told me to use Chrome instead of Edge. Fine, I switched browsers, cleared history, did the whole dance, and then the site behaved differently on Chrome than the rep’s screen looked. So either the instructions on their end are inconsistent or the site is flaky across browsers — either way, not great. Then the rep said she’d hang up to let me finish and I had to basically beg her to stay on the line. I didn't want to be disconnected and have to start over with someone else.
After more fiddling, another error popped up — technical problem, try later. I was told by a rep that my account had actually been activated on that first try but then got locked, which explains why the later attempts failed. If that’s true, someone should have checked that before making me re-do everything. It’s the small stuff — a quick check on the account status would have saved me a lot of time.
To be fair, there was one rep at the end who stayed patient and walked me through a password reset — and that worked. That was a pleasant surprise; I wasn’t expecting anyone to stick with it. They also sent the reset email promptly, even though the rep mentioned a 15-minute wait before using it and the mail itself didn’t say that. So communication between channels is messy.
Overall, this is a useful service for someone like me who uses it to monitor credit while juggling house hunting, bills, kids' stuff — the everyday money anxiety — but the delivery and customer service need work. The tech glitches and the inconsistent instructions make something simple drag on and waste time. If they fixed the handoff between web instructions and phone agents, and standardized what browser to use (or made the site work in all browsers), it would be much less painful. Right now I’m relieved it’s set up, but also annoyed at the time lost.

Long wait, slow fixes

Service

a default was on my credit file that Octopus Energy confirmed was wrong and told TransUnion twice to remove. Experian cleared that same entry in about a day. TransUnion did not. Months later it was still there. We phoned and phoned — honestly, I lost count — trying to get someone to act faster. The call centre staff kept mistaking our calls for a dispute when we were telling them Octopus had already confirmed the error. Only on the sixth call did someone seem to grasp what we meant. Even then, she said she couldn’t make management read our escalation any quicker because management only responds by email and there’s no direct phone line to them. That’s the odd bit: internal communications apparently don’t exist between the call centre and management, so there’s no quick way to chase things. We had sent a detailed email and cc’d Octopus as advised. No reply. No confirmation that anyone had actually acted. We were told 28 days would be typical, sometimes 5–6 weeks. This started back in May, so timelines were not followed in our case. The real impact was practical: mortgage applications stalled because the incorrect record stayed live. So it’s not just annoying, it had consequences. Customer service was technically polite but slow and structurally limited — they couldn’t escalate properly and couldn’t phone the team that might fix it. Delivery of the resolution was poor: promises of timeframes didn’t hold and automated admin channels weren’t effective. I’m not saying everything is awful for everyone, but the process needs work. A couple of suggestions for others: copy the provider that’s onside, keep detailed logs of calls and dates, and don’t rely on a quick email fix. And for the company — make management reachable or improve internal comms so frontline staff can actually get an issue actioned. It worked out eventually, but only after a long, frustrating delay and repeated follow-ups. So yeah — not perfect, but at least possible to resolve if you keep at it.

Personal credit report

Account

I've had a really bad experience with this credit bureau. I keep trying to fix mistakes in my personal information, but they keep mixing it up with someone else's. It's been a big problem for me, like when a car loan showed up on my account even though I don't have one. I paid for a subscription and reached out to them multiple times, but it took them months to fix the mistakes. And just when I thought things were fixed, new errors showed up, like someone else's address and a $500,000 house mortgage that isn't mine. I disputed it, they said they updated my profile, but nothing changed.

This credit bureau is the worst I've ever dealt with, and it worries me that the Canadian government and banks trust them. It's not okay that such important financial information can be so wrong and mishandled. Canadian banks shouldn't be using this unreliable credit score provider to make decisions like approving mortgages.

Credit score reporting

Account

I had a big drop in my credit score recently with TransUnion because of just one credit check for a loan. Even though I've been good with making payments on time and managing my credit responsibly for a while, my score took a sudden nosedive. This messed up reporting has got me feeling frustrated and worried, because I've put in a lot of effort to build up my credit. I haven't bothered to deal with TransUnion's website or customer service about it, but I think it's important to tell others about my bad experience. It's pretty disappointing to come across such incompetence and lack of clarity in the credit reporting world.

Address update

Service

I had the worst time with this company's customer service recently. All I wanted was to update my address since I moved a while back, but it turned into a total nightmare. The reps didn't seem to know what they were doing, and kept passing me around without fixing anything. Waiting on the phone was the worst part, and the whole thing was just so annoying and took up so much time. I even tried to make a formal complaint, but that was just as hard as trying to update my address. This kind of incompetence shouldn't be okay, and it's just not right for a company to treat their customers so badly.

Account issues

Account

Eh, I would totally give them a zero if I could, eh. They're not helpful at all, eh. I've been dealing with this account reporting me delinquent for 12 years and they haven't done a darn thing about it, eh. The info on the account is all wrong and I can't even access it, eh. It's a total joke and I'm thinking of suing them along with the other company involved, eh. It's gross that they have control over my financial stuff. Ugh, eh!

Credit score issues

Account

My experience with this company was awful! They didn't keep proper track of my payments and didn't handle my disputes well. It really hurt my credit score, which was so frustrating. I had to keep reminding them to do their work right. It's not right that they don't take their responsibilities seriously, especially towards black and brown folks.

Dispute filing difficulties

Service

I can't believe how bad the customer service was when I tried to file a dispute with this company. First, I tried online but kept getting errors that sent me back to the start. So I called customer service for help and waited on hold for over an hour. Finally, I spoke to someone with poor English who transferred me to another person. But that person ended up hanging up on me without fixing anything. It's really unprofessional and unacceptable nowadays. I hope others speak up and do something about this shady behaviour.

Credit report purchase

App & Portal

I recently bought my credit report from your company and I had a pretty annoying experience, eh. I got an email saying it was ready, but then couldn't find it online so had to call for help, y'know. Spent nearly 2 hours on the phone talking to 5 different folks, all with pretty thick accents that made it hard to understand, eh. None of 'em could really help me find the info on the website, and they couldn't even explain why I got the email in the first place, eh. One of 'em even had trouble figuring out how many months are in a year, can you believe it, eh. Was pretty disappointed to see the customer service team lacking in listening and communication skills, eh.

Credit report analysis

Service

My experience with the customer service representatives at this company was so frustrating. When I called to ask about an issue with my account, they were not helpful at all. The first rep I talked to just told me to go online, but I had already tried that. When I called back to update my info and deal with the ongoing problem, I got the same unprofessional treatment. They talked down to me, saying it was a credit bureau and I should handle it online. I had to push to speak to someone who could actually help, and finally, they transferred me to another department. They clearly weren't listening to me or interested in fixing things. The way they acted was just not right for customer service - it was unacceptable.

Issue with missing banking accounts on credit report

Account

I've been with Transunion for a few years now, and I have to say, their service is a real joke. I've got two bank accounts that I've had for almost 7 years, and I've never missed a payment on either of them. But when I looked at my credit report on Transunion, I couldn't believe it - both those accounts were missing. How can a reputable credit bureau like Transunion mess up something so basic? It's unbelievable that they want people to trust their credit reports when they can't even get simple account info right.

Credit score subscription

App & Portal

I signed up for their credit score service, and it definitely helped boost my credit score. But when I wanted to cancel, it was such a hassle. Why do I need to go through all this trouble just to end a subscription? It's frustrating and so old-fashioned. They don't make it easy to leave - making us go through long phone calls and transfers between staff. They even blocked me from my account, saying they couldn't verify my identity on the same device I used to join and pay. It's just ridiculous.

Monthly subscription cancellation

Service

Don't bother shelling out for the monthly subscription, it's a pain to cancel and way more complicated than it needs to be. Save yourself the headache and go with a free option like Credit Karma, it's just as good. And seriously, asking for your SIN card details over the phone and then passing it along to some company in India? Big no-no for security. You could end up getting scammed or having your info stolen. Best to steer clear of this service altogether.

Credit report purchase

Service

This company is an absolute disaster, I tell ya. I tried to buy a credit report and it was a total nightmare. The whole authentication thing was a disaster, had me making a bunch of phone calls. The first person I talked to had technical problems and didn't even bother calling me back. The second just kept passing the buck, and the third told me they couldn't help until next week but still charged my credit card right then and there. The customer service is a total joke, do yourself a favour and steer clear of this hot mess.

Identity verification process

Service

I was so disappointed with the customer service at this company, eh. The folks they got working there just don't know what they're doing and don't seem to care about us customers, eh. I tried to reach out for help with an identity verification thing, and not only did they not get why I was callin', but they talked to me like I was a total dummy, eh. The way those reps treated me was just so unprofessional and disrespectful, it really bummed me out, eh.

Credit report issue resolution

Service

That was such a terrible experience trying to fix an error on my credit report, eh? I had multiple frustrating chats with reps who had a hard time with English and kept giving me conflicting info. Their incompetence and lack of responsibility were shocking, you know? At first, they told me to wait five business days and then give them specific document numbers over the phone to sort it out. But later, they said I had to mail in the docs. How can they mess up something as important as a credit score, eh? It's just mind-boggling.

Credit score check

Price

This company is a total scam, eh! Make sure you're careful when checking your credit score with them because they conveniently forget to mention those hidden charges that sneak up on your bank account later. And let me tell you, their website is a complete disaster, I tell ya - you'll get a headache just trying to navigate it. And don't even get me started on their customer service - talking to them on the phone is like talking to a brick wall, and good luck trying to understand them with that heavy accent from another country. It's just plain ridiculous, eh!

Got a credit report

Price

Transunion is the worst! I tried to get my credit report and it was a total nightmare. They hide charges and make it so difficult to cancel. It's a total scam, don't even bother!

Credit score

Overall

Oh man, those guys are so sketchy with their trust scores. Can't trust 'em, that's for sure. Be careful with your credit - total scammers!

This place is brutal! The website always screws up, and the staff is super rude and unhelpful. They never do anything to help you out!
