Table drama with a group
12 reviews
Not worth it if you want to eat together. A friend tipped us on this hotel so we booked — big mistake. We showed up as 20 people and the restaurant refused to push tables, said we had to pay €80 to sit together. It's absurd, we were half-laughing, half-annoyed and ended up splitting into smaller groups (not ideal). Won't recommend for big groups.

Sun, pool and a hospital visit

I booked a week at their resort in Punta Cana, thinking a beach week would fix everything. First day looked promising — pools, music, staff moving fast. After two days I got food poisoning and ended up in hospital, which killed the trip. Service felt cold and distracted, like no one cared. On the plus side the grounds were tidy and the room was comfy, but yeah, not worth the risk for me.

Overall, really happy we picked this place — solid choice. We stayed a long weekend in May and I was a bit skeptical at check-in (looked almost too calm), but that faded fast. Rooms are modern and comfy, breakfast has tons of options — even gluten-free — and you can choose table service or the buffet. Coffee and a small glass of bubbles in the morning was a nice touch. Staff were helpful, pool area lovely, loungers comfy. I'd go back.

Sunny but underwhelming stay

beach was lovely and a few staff were helpful, so I'm glad we had the sunshine, but overall I wouldn't rush back. Still, I'm grateful we got some rest and sun.

Quick fix from reservations

no long holds, no runaround, and the upgrade showed on my confirmation shortly after. Still a little wary at first, but ended up pleased. If I have a wish, it'd be clearer where to reach them (I used +34 928 40 24 18) and maybe an email follow-up instead of just voice; that would make it perfect. I’ll use them again next time I travel, if needed.

Small surprises, big comfort

I showed up half-curious and somehow ended up feeling at home. Booking was quick — confirmation hit my inbox right away and the team answered a couple of silly questions on chat. Check-in was easy; the bell staff actually delivered my bag while I was juggling a laptop and a coffee, so instant win. The bars are chill — the crew at the main bar kept the banter going, and the lagoon bar person had calm, oddly perfect drink suggestions for an afternoon of reading. Little things kept surprising me. The resident cats patrol the place and somehow make the grounds friendlier, and the groundskeeper — clearly the same steady person we’ve noticed for years — keeps everything tidy without drama. I work from here sometimes, so reliable Wi-Fi and prompt room service delivery matter; they brought a late snack right when I needed it. Once there was a tiny hiccup and customer service fixed it in minutes, with a smile. I’ll be back.

Nice pools, grumpy people
3 reviews
after I flagged a manager about the check-in mess they actually fixed a couple of things, and room service delivered hot meals within thirty minutes one evening which, to my surprise, were decent. A housekeeping person showed up promptly when we asked for extra towels. So it went from sceptical to actually relieved — still not perfect (food overall weak, staff sometimes abrupt), but the quick fixes and decent delivery rescued the holiday more than I expected.

Good hotel, poor COVID handling

if COVID-19 precautions are a priority for you, this place will frustrate you. The resort itself is decent — clean rooms, decent food, the pool area looks fine — but the way staff handled basic safety rules was sloppy and a bit worrying at first. We picked the hotel because their website promised strict measures. Turns out a lot of that was more wishful thinking than reality. A bunch of sanitizers by the doors were empty or didn’t work. People at the breakfast buffet weren’t bothering with gloves. So my mom and I moved a couple of sunbeds to our terrace to keep some distance from others. For two days that was fine. Then a manager, clearly annoyed, came over and told us we couldn’t keep the beds there and had to move back to the main sun area, even though the hotel wasn’t full and there were spare beds everywhere. She didn’t seem to get why we were uncomfortable and basically insisted we follow the “rule” without any flexibility. That was the low point. After that things felt awkward but the rest of the stay wasn’t terrible — staff at the restaurant were friendly, the food was alright, and the room was comfortable. I’m relieved we didn’t get sick, but I’m also cautious about recommending it to anyone who wants real COVID care. If you go, double-check the sanitizers and maybe bring your own hand gel. They could improve training; that would make a big difference.

Ground-floor routine

my partner uses a wheelchair and I get lower‑back flare-ups, and after a cramped city hotel we were cautious. The room made day-to-day life easier: wide doorways, walk‑in shower, real space to manoeuvre. Furniture’s a bit tired but solid and it didn’t get in the way. The terrace is private on the ground floor with a table and chairs and a handy place for damp gear — we used it every morning.

Not what the photos promised, but it did the job

chaotic, like everyone arrived at once, and the front desk phone? Good luck getting a live person before you’re already halfway through your trip. Booking online was fine, but any follow-up questions? Dead air or slow replies. The check-in staff themselves were okay once I found them, friendly enough but clearly juggling a dozen things. Luggage showed up later than I’d hoped, and room service took even longer — the burger arrived limp and underwhelming, but the fries were decent, so, mixed bag. Buffet nights felt crowded and rushed; people elbowing about, plates getting refilled with yesterday’s-looking stuff, which was meh. On the flip side, when I needed help with a late checkout the manager sorted it out without drama, so points for that. I started using the teppanyaki place one evening and the chef was playful — maybe went a tad too far with jokes, which was awkward — but the food was mostly fine. Overall: not flawless, and at times frustrating, especially the customer contact before arrival, but it covered the basics. If you want slick and shiny, look elsewhere. If you just need a place to crash with mostly polite staff and tolerable food, it’ll work. Just be prepared for a few annoyances and follow up yourself if you need anything done on time.

Room next to the lifts — not what I expected
9 reviews
I was halfway through shoving clothes into drawers when I realised the noise was already a thing — doors slamming, footsteps, elevator dinging, like a soundtrack I didn’t sign up for. Checked in last night and, honestly, the arrival and how they “delivered” the room felt off. Booking went fine online (no complaints there), but the moment of truth — walking into the allocated room — didn’t match the description. Front desk was polite enough in bits, but when I asked if something could be done they got a bit dismissive, suggesting a “downgrade” as if that’s supposed to be reassuring. Weird.
I’ve had sketchy check-ins before with other places, but usually someone tries to actually help. Here, most staff were friendly — housekeeping and the breakfast crew were lovely, which was a welcome surprise and made the mornings better than expected — but reception seemed stuck on rules rather than solutions. They offered a couple of alternate rooms that smelled faintly of smoke or drains, so I didn’t want to swap. The hotel apparently thinks being next to stairs and lifts is “deluxe view,” which is an odd definition.
All that said, the property itself is nice and some team members tried to fix things, which I appreciated. Still, the handling of the room assignment and the “delivery” of what we paid for could’ve been smoother. If you’re sensitive to noise, ask specifically at booking and push for a confirmation away from service areas. I’d come back only if reception felt more proactive next time — there’s potential, but they need to care a bit more.

Sunny mornings and friendly faces

I woke up the first morning and just stood on the balcony watching the light hit the palm trees. Small moment, but it set the tone. This was our fourth visit to the Melonaras group and honestly it felt familiar in a very good way — comfy, easy, pleasant. We split our time between the main hotel, a sister property down the road and, for variety, the buffet place with all the plants and a slightly wild décor. Different flavours, same warm welcome each time.

Not remotely five stars

this place does not deserve a five-star label — simple as that. We chose to stay because the brochure looked fine and other operators have treated us way better, but the reality was off in almost every practical way. We arrived close to midnight and the outdoor reception was dark and closed; the transfer coach had dropped people off at other hotels where staff were still handling luggage and checking guests in. Our driver just pointed toward a pitch-black path and said “go up there,” which was... not helpful. After wandering, we found the reception area which felt gloomy and poorly lit, and were told abruptly that we were “too late” to be met — despite the fact the flight and transfer times were out of our control. That already set the tone. A helpful front-desk person actually checked us in and led us up, but the first room was the wrong type. We were shuffled back through a maze of dark corridors, which is frankly a trip hazard — literally — and then had to wait for a manager to appear. When she did, she seemed annoyed that she’d been called and escorted us to the other room but left immediately. The room they finally gave us was the right category, but it hadn’t been prepared: no bottled water, no welcome info, nothing. Tiny detail but important — Gran Canaria tap water isn’t drinkable, and we’d used up our last drink on the plane, so we were pretty desperate. We ended up leaving to find a bar that was still open. What surprised me, oddly, was that a few staff members, like the initial check-in person and the Jet2 rep Esme, actually tried to help and were professional; Esme even explored moving us to another hotel but explained any switch would mean extra charges and losing a day, which we didn’t want. So we stayed. The hotel leans hard into a “dark theme,” and when we pointed out safety concerns we were basically told it was intentional — health and safety didn’t seem to carry much weight. On departure day they phoned asking why our room wasn’t vacated by noon and tried to demand extra payment for afternoon occupancy even though there was no instruction in the paperwork or pickup text. I refused and they backed down, but it was the last straw. In short: a few decent people, but systemic issues — lighting, safety, communication and policies — make this place not worth a five-star claim. We’ve had better at cheaper places, honestly.

A solid stay with real highs and a few annoying lows

I’m glad I picked Villa Del Conde for a week — it worked for me overall, though it’s definitely not flawless. I saw it on a travel forum first, and then a friend actually tipped me to try the adapted rooms, so that’s how I booked. I’ll say straight away the accessibility bits are the real win here, and the staff were lovely, but some little things kept reminding me it wasn’t quite the full five-star polish.

This hotel was amazing! We've been to quite a few 5-star hotels before, but none of them were as great as this one. Our room was fantastic, with special features like a separate breakfast spot and a private pool. The staff were super nice and made sure everything was clean. The place itself was beautiful, and the food was so good. What else could you want from a hotel? We're already thinking about coming back again.

As a person who travels a lot, I always look for fancy places to stay that offer great service and nice extras. My last visit to one of those family-owned hotels was incredible. From the minute I got there, they treated me like royalty. The staff was super helpful, pleasant, and knew what they were doing, which made my visit really special. The hotel itself was like a beautiful dream, with amazing decorations, lush gardens, and fancy rooms that went above and beyond what I was expecting. I really appreciated all the little details and the overall vibe of the hotel. It was an amazing experience that I'll always remember.

Family stay at a resort

Our recent stay at the resort was terrible. The staff were so rude and unhelpful, especially with families. The manager was shockingly rude and even mean. We had to wait forever for things like hot milk for the kids, which is just not okay. The food was terrible, tasted like old leftovers. Dinner was not good at all, the food was bad. One time we tried to book a table at the restaurant and got a late spot, but they didn't even save it for us. We spent a lot of money on this holiday that ended up being a total disaster.

My time at Lopesan Melonares in Gran Canaria was like a little piece of paradise. The hotel was stunning and super spacious, giving off a heavenly vibe. It was really family-friendly and had six rooms designed for people with mobility issues, like wheelchairs. The room I stayed in was roomy and easy to move around in, with glass doors that opened up to a private terrace. The furniture was a bit worn but still did the trick. The staff were amazing and really went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable during my stay. The dining options were top-notch, with delicious food and lots to choose from. The pools were awesome too, with one heated pool and help available for guests with disabilities. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and I would totally recommend Lopesan Melonares to anyone looking for a chill and enjoyable holiday spot.
