Hotel reservation problem

Communication

I was trying to book a hotel but needed to change my reservation. When I tried to reach out to customer service on the website chat, it wasn't working! So, I sent them an email, and got a canned response telling me to call a phone number. Turns out, it was actually Expedia, not Hotwire! They said my reservation number wasn't valid and gave me another number to call. That number didn't pick up either! I eventually found another Hotwire department, but they also couldn't find my reservation and advised me to cancel my VISA payment. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that because I have a Spanish bank account! Hotwire seemed to have disappeared and I had no way to contact them. Total scam!

Car rental credit issue

Communication

I recently had a rough time with a company when I tried to cancel a car rental I booked with them. At first, they gave me credit for the cancellation, which I thought was awesome. But when I went to use the credit for booking a flight, they told me it couldn't be used because their flights and car rental/hotel departments are separate. I thought that was totally ridiculous and inconvenient. It doesn't make sense that a credit from one department can't be used in another. Their lack of coordination among departments is a big flaw in their customer service.

About Hotwire

Hotwire is a travel website that operates as a subsidiary of Expedia Group. It was founded in 2000 by Karl Peterson, Eric Grosse, Gregg Brockway, and Spencer Rascoff. The company specializes in offering discounted rates for travel-related services, including hotel stays, car rentals, and airline tickets, through a model known as "opaque" inventory. This means that the specific details of the product (like the name of the hotel or airline) are not revealed until after the purchase has been completed, allowing service providers to sell unsold inventory at lower prices without publicly cutting their standard rates. Over the years, Hotwire has gained popularity among budget-conscious travelers looking for deals while maintaining some flexibility in their travel plans.
