Double charge, heads up

Price

watch your charges — I was billed twice for one booking. Booked online (showed as New York Palace), checked in at NH and they charged me €623 x2. No email replies. Glad I noticed it early; check your bank, honestly.

Surprise on the bill

I arrived with two small dogs after getting written confirmation that pets under 25 kg were allowed for €25. At check-in the clerk said the same — €25, all good. The room was tidy and they left bowls by the door, oddly nice and unexpected. At checkout the invoice showed €50 per night, listed twice as “14kg dog”. I asked for a manager at the desk. They told me to email. I emailed twice and heard nothing back. The front desk seemed sorry but couldn’t change it. I paid to avoid a long fight, which was annoying. I’ve had clearer dealings with other hotel chains; they confirm pet fees in writing and stick to them. Delivery of the room itself was fine. Customer service on billing and follow-up was poor. That lack of response is the real issue here, not the stay. Won’t be booking again without a clear written agreement.

Prague Carlo IV booked, double charged

I booked a stay at the Prague Carlo IV hotel and was shocked to find out that I got charged double for the same booking! The reception manager, Jan, was extremely rude and accused me of lying about the payment, despite having an email confirming it. He even demanded to see my bank statements as proof! When I asked for the name of his supervisor, he flat out refused to tell me. I had to reach out to customer service in the UK for assistance, but still, no apology or refund was given. This awful experience completely ruined my two-night stay.

Group stay at a hotel in Berlin

Price

I stayed with a group at a hotel in Berlin and it was a pretty bad experience. At first, they quoted us a lower price for a single room when we booked it, but when we got there they jacked up the price and basically told us to either pay up or leave. Not cool. The staff were also really rude and acted all high and mighty, which is not what you expect from a fancy four-star hotel. I definitely wouldn't suggest staying there to anyone else and recommend looking elsewhere.

Excessive additional charges

I was pretty let down by my last stay, eh? They added on a ton of extra charges to my bill without telling me beforehand. Parking, Wi-Fi, and even pool towels all came with surprise fees. It would have been nice to know about all that stuff ahead of time so I could budget for it, you know?

Reservation and payment discrepancy

I had a really bad experience booking a hotel recently. I reserved a room online and was told one price, but when I got there, they charged me more. The people working there didn't care at all when I brought it up, they made me feel like I was getting ripped off. I ended up spending more money than I planned on, and I felt like they were being shady with their prices. It was a really unpleasant experience, and I would tell others to watch out when booking with them.
