I almost gave it a shot because, hey, free is tempting, right? I was already annoyed that my usual free service suddenly wanted $50 this year, so I thought I’d try something else. I filled in everything — personal details, income, deductions — and it seemed normal at first. Then the federal total popped up way higher than expected. Like, over a thousand dollars higher. That’s when the doubt turned into full-on concern. I clicked the explanation and the worksheet showed a different number, the correct number, but the program used the bigger figure. I checked with two other services to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. Nope — the software was off. So you get to file “for free,” but the glitch could cost you a lot if you trust it. Also, it recalculated our healthcare marketplace reconciliation oddly, another red flag that makes me uneasy about audits or extra hassles. I want to like a free option, and I wanted this to be fine, but it wasn’t. If you’ve had bad software before, you’ll recognize the feeling. I’d skip this and go with something more reliable, even if it costs a bit.
