Finally relieved, but not because of the airline
Finally relieved, but not because of the airline
Communicationcalling Qatar, talking to Iberia staff in Madrid, sending a family member to hand the bag to ground staff in Tenerife, and then more calls and messages when it got stuck again in Madrid and later Doha. No proactive updates from the carrier at any point, which was maddening. The low point was hours lost on calls and rearranging my own logistics instead of the airline doing it. The pleasantly surprising bit came at the end — the GPS tracker actually helped, and a duty agent in Johannesburg went out of their way to get the bag onto the final flight and met me at arrivals. The suitcase arrived intact, and that moment — when I saw it on the carousel and someone handed it over with a quiet, “Here you go” — is when I finally felt satisfied. Doesn’t erase the stress and the time wasted, and I’d expect better communication next time, but I’ll admit I was relieved. If you fly this route, don’t rely on updates — bring a tracker and be ready to pick up the phone.
Mid-queue relief (after the mess)
Mid-queue relief (after the mess)
Communicationcurt staff, lousy communication, and a general shrug from the gate crew. Still, credit where it’s due — the rebooked connections worked out in the end and the last stretch, though with a different carrier than on my original ticket, got me there. I’m thankful it didn’t turn into a full multi-day disaster, and honestly relieved that persistence paid off. Would I fly them again? Maybe, but only with a lot more buffer time and double-checked confirmations. I’ve told a couple of coworkers to do the same — check, check, and check again.
