Lost bags, lost patience

Service

don’t rely on Iberia for tight, multi‑stop trips — they lost our only checked bag in Lima and then basically shrugged. I first ran into them after booking a cheap fare on a travel aggregator and, yes, I’d even told a friend to consider them, so this stung. At the Lima transfer desk the staff made us sign a Power of Attorney so they could collect the suitcase, then told us to call Customer Service in the morning — which felt like passing the buck. Our inbound was Iberia, outbound was LATAM, and instead of fixing anything they played a blame game; no one would own the mistake or help two non‑Spanish speakers navigate the next steps. They didn’t explain the missing‑luggage routine (we found out later it’s pretty standard), offered almost no help tracing the bag, and provided minimal updates. Because of the delay we missed the connection to Iquitos and had to buy replacement tickets ourselves, plus a hotel while we waited for the next flight — all out of pocket. We spent hours on hold, opened reports, sent emails, got reference numbers, and still haven’t been taken seriously about reimbursement. Not dramatic, just factual: poor coordination, thin customer support, and extra costs dumped on us. Slightly annoying because the fare was good, but that’s small comfort when you’re stuck in Lima without your stuff. I’d warn people — be cautious with connections through Lima on Iberia.

That knock on the door — and finally breathing

Service

I flew from Lisbon to Quito with a stop in Madrid, and I needed this trip to go smoothly because I had a big presentation the next day and I rely on a small bag of prescription meds that I can’t miss. I’ve had rough airline experiences before, so I was already a little on edge. The Lisbon to Madrid leg was fine — I basically slept — but the Madrid to Quito stretch was… kind of a mixed bag, and not in a good way at first. The cabin vibe? A couple of crew were nice, steady, helpful even, but there was one attendant who kept bumping into my arm while walking the aisle, like, several times. I wasn’t leaning out into the corridor or anything, I was just sitting normally, so it was odd and a bit annoying. Early on they said drinks and snacks were available anytime, so I took that at face value. Six hours later, when I asked for a coffee, one attendant — I think his name was Jaime — basically told me he needed his privacy and didn’t want to be bothered. That stung. I mentioned it to another crew member and someone did go talk to him, so not everyone was rude, but those moments definitely set the tone.
