Unexpected sprint and missing bags
Unexpected sprint and missing bags
On-siteI found myself actually sprinting through Madrid airport like it was some cheap action movie. I was in 1A on a business fare and managed to catch the connection by a hair — literally a few seconds — after hauling myself across the terminal. It felt surreal, and honestly kind of lucky. That said, the trip wasn’t all thrills. Both flights were delayed even though the connection was already tight, and I kept thinking about folks in the back who couldn’t dash for their lives like I did — older travellers, families, you know. The real punch was luggage: my bag got lost both going to Spain and again on the way back. On a business ticket, that stung. I had a full day of important meetings and showed up without any of my stuff. Not great. Also, at Paris there was basically no one to talk to — just kiosks and machines and no real human help. That lack of in-person support left me pretty frustrated and confused about where my things were. Still, a few positives: I appreciated the seat and the quick boarding for business class, and getting to the meeting late but present was better than missing it. If you’re planning anything similar, a heads-up from me: pack a change of clothes and any essentials in carry-on, and save copies of itineraries and contacts on your phone. Ask your company to add insurance or tracking if it’s a high-stakes trip. I’m oddly upbeat about surviving the chaos — a bit shaken, a bit amused — but I’d hope for better luggage handling and more staff at airports next time. Overall, useful lessons learned and I’d fly again if needed, just a bit more prepared.
Lost bags, lost patience

Servicedon’t rely on Iberia for tight, multi‑stop trips — they lost our only checked bag in Lima and then basically shrugged. I first ran into them after booking a cheap fare on a travel aggregator and, yes, I’d even told a friend to consider them, so this stung. At the Lima transfer desk the staff made us sign a Power of Attorney so they could collect the suitcase, then told us to call Customer Service in the morning — which felt like passing the buck. Our inbound was Iberia, outbound was LATAM, and instead of fixing anything they played a blame game; no one would own the mistake or help two non‑Spanish speakers navigate the next steps. They didn’t explain the missing‑luggage routine (we found out later it’s pretty standard), offered almost no help tracing the bag, and provided minimal updates. Because of the delay we missed the connection to Iquitos and had to buy replacement tickets ourselves, plus a hotel while we waited for the next flight — all out of pocket. We spent hours on hold, opened reports, sent emails, got reference numbers, and still haven’t been taken seriously about reimbursement. Not dramatic, just factual: poor coordination, thin customer support, and extra costs dumped on us. Slightly annoying because the fare was good, but that’s small comfort when you’re stuck in Lima without your stuff. I’d warn people — be cautious with connections through Lima on Iberia.

ChangesI booked a return from Lima to Copenhagen a few weeks ago and paid extra for those roomy XL seats — the kind you pick because it’s a long haul and you don’t want to be miserable. At first I was happy, everything looked good. Then the flight got cancelled and they rebooked me on an earlier one, and the agent on the phone assured me I’d keep the same XL seats. That’s where things started to unravel.
That baggage carousel moment you wish never happened

On-sitemy name, address and phone were on the outside. So when someone suggested the tag fell off, I sort of laughed nervously. How does a tag fall off but the bag still get lost? That felt like the clearest sign of sloppy handling.

ServiceI flew from Lisbon to Quito with a stop in Madrid, and I needed this trip to go smoothly because I had a big presentation the next day and I rely on a small bag of prescription meds that I can’t miss. I’ve had rough airline experiences before, so I was already a little on edge. The Lisbon to Madrid leg was fine — I basically slept — but the Madrid to Quito stretch was… kind of a mixed bag, and not in a good way at first. The cabin vibe? A couple of crew were nice, steady, helpful even, but there was one attendant who kept bumping into my arm while walking the aisle, like, several times. I wasn’t leaning out into the corridor or anything, I was just sitting normally, so it was odd and a bit annoying. Early on they said drinks and snacks were available anytime, so I took that at face value. Six hours later, when I asked for a coffee, one attendant — I think his name was Jaime — basically told me he needed his privacy and didn’t want to be bothered. That stung. I mentioned it to another crew member and someone did go talk to him, so not everyone was rude, but those moments definitely set the tone.
