Timingdon’t assume your deposit is safe until the car is back with them. I needed the rental for a weekend move — lower back acting up, couldn’t lug stuff with friends — so I relied on having the car longer. One day after pickup they grabbed the full deposit off my card, while the car was still in my driveway. No return, no joint inspection, no damage report yet. The official handover paperwork showed up after the money had already been taken — which felt backward, honestly. I chased them for weeks for the damage report, the repair invoice, proof anything was fixed, and a timeline explaining why they charged early. I got paperwork eventually, but it didn’t explain why the debit happened before any documented check. Small rant aside: I do appreciate people trying to run a business, but this process left me annoyed and uneasy (and with sore back, still). My takeaway: photo everything when you pick up and return, ask when they plan to capture deposits, and demand the docs immediately. Wouldn’t recommend based on this hiccup; maybe they’re fine, but I wouldn’t risk it myself.

Timingextra charge for an "out of hours" pick-up and zero heads-up at booking. Not cool. But here's the twist that saved the afternoon: a young rep actually met me halfway, sorted a quicker booking fix on the spot and helped arrange a taxi without making it awkward. They even double-checked my reservation details and apologized, which felt genuine. So delivery-wise it was frustrating — they need to make shuttle/airport pickup clear — but the customer service recovery was better than I expected. If you're booking, know the quirks: read the fine print, call ahead, and expect to arrange your own airport transfer. I’d use them again only if the pick-up logistics are confirmed in advance. Overall a mixed bag, surprising in a good way because the staff tried to make it right.

TimingI wouldn’t go back. We booked Greenmotion after a friend tipped us off on a travel chat, and at first it seemed fine — car was clean and ran well, which was a bit of a surprise — but the whole drop-off experience soured everything. I’m saying this from the middle of the chaos: we arrived to return the car and, after 36 working days, they still hadn’t released the R22,000 pre-authorized hold. That’s the main issue, but the way they handled the return made it worse. We were told to walk about a kilometre to a lot, which is ridiculous when you’re with two elderly parents and more luggage than sense. We stood around for half an hour while staff kept pushing extra insurance (I told them I already had cover, more than once). One person even asked my teenage daughter to fetch my card to pay for insurance — really awkward and unnecessary. Then they said the car wasn’t ready and bundled seven of us into two small vehicles, driving way too fast; everyone felt uncomfortable. At reception we waited again, with hardly any seats and bottles of water that had been sitting in the sun (not ideal). A manager did apologise and offered to take a day off the rental — okay, that was something — but then nobody followed through quickly. More waiting, a promise from another manager, then more waiting, and finally the inspection happened after we’d already loaded the car. Because of all that delay we missed a big part of a family celebration in Hermanus. So: the car itself was fine, staff could be polite, and one manager did try to make amends, but the combination of poor organisation and the refusal to promptly clear that huge pre-authorized hold makes this an experience I can’t recommend.
