CommunicationStanding at the counter with my half-drunk coffee, I figured paying my tax issue would be a five-minute fix. I was sorting taxes after a move. The branch in Gridley was tidy and the staff were friendly enough. The in-store process felt easy. Then the IRS bounced the payment because someone typed the wrong account number. I noticed my account wasn't charged and panicked. I called four times. No one called me back. I asked if I should pay the IRS directly or wait for them to sort it. No answer. That surprised me—more so because the in-person bit had gone so well. Won't risk it again. Felt small, avoidable, and annoying.
