    Web Design Module 1

Hard sell, poor content, poor customer service and everything is an additional cost!

I have had a terrible experience with Shaw Academy after signing up for a free trial offer through Vodafone! I looked up the reviews here and all seemed fine - but today notice a warning about the dishonest practice of a company entering positive reviews here on their behalf. I wish that had been there in May when I looked!

Anyway I took the Web Design module 1 there were 8 lessons but you can only take a maximum of 2 per week (annoying during the lockdown when you have time to do more). The lessons varied from 30 to 60 minutes each with A LOT OF REPITITION between each and lots of padding each lesson a) at the beginning by the 'educator' about her skills, experience, hobbies! and b) hard sell about the reason why you needed to pay to go on to the next module (which grew in length the closer you came to the end).

In some instances you learn one or two new points that weren't covered previously for sitting through 30+ minutes of repitition/padding.

They also ask you to post things on their facebook page e.g. your digital CV which they 'help' you build but when you go to that page nobody else does - I think most people join their photography classes (from the content there). Doesn't seem sensible to share your personal CV on their facebook page (so wouldn't do that and neither it seems has anyone else when you look).

You have to chase them to release each weeks assignment and the assignments have typo's in both the English part of the question plus the html / css code - when compared to the notes and screenshots from the course.

Everything comes at an additional cost (£39.95) and you are then charged to take the end of module test (which was not explained anywhere previously). It looked like you had to pay for a certificate NOT to take the test, I didn't care about having a certificate as long as I passed.

The overall quality of the course was poor and customer service even worse. I had a question in week one about something in the first lesson - 4 weeks later still no response (they're busy). The first few emails bounced - even though it was the same email address published and which got answers a week later. The majority of the responses from customer response was a standard spiel referring you to the FAQ's and it was obvious they hadn't even looked at your question - where I even included screenshots.

I promptly attended every lesson - but kept getting reminders that I had missed the lesson! And on occasion, a call 9 minutes into the lesson to say my course started in 10 minutes!

It is obvious the classes are all webcasts (pre-recorded) and despite having the ability to share a message with your other attendees nobody answered. In fact on several occasions, the video jumps and repeats a section.

I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point!

AVOID them like the plague it is a real con and NOT good value for money or the time you spend on it!!

Website purposefully misleads with ambiguous information about 12 month plan and now won't offer refund

I had signed up for a free trial (you have to provide banking details when you sign up for the free trial) and with time left to go I was looking at the plan options to continue after the trial of which there were 3 membership options available for 3, 6 and 12 months. I'd like to call out that everywhere else on their website they do (however in very small font as if trying to hide it) cite where items are a one-click purchase (for toolkits etc) so they teach you to look out for that but there was nothing like that cited on this page so when I clicked on the 12 month membership option I was fully expecting some form of confirmation checkout screen where I would be able to review a summary of what I was purchasing and what payment would be taken etc that I could then review and agree to or abandon and go back and look at one of the other options - but instead I was greeted with confirmation that a once off payment for the full 12 months (€199.95) had just been taken from my paypal account.

I was not aware that the subscription was a once off payment for all 12 months, their website was very misleading in making it appear to be a monthly premium that would be debited, even stating the monthly amount of "€16.66p/m" which they focus user attention on by presenting it (misleadingly) as primary content with central proximity in the largest font compared to other information about that option.

I immediately attempted to contact them via their number on my paypal transaction however that line had a messaging system advising the number was not in service, I then emailed them and have been in a back and forth exchange where I have been advised that they are "sorry that you have misunderstood the offer." but they do no issue refunds

SHAME ON SHAW ACADEMY More like sh!# academy. Their toolkit button and certificate are very misleading and tricky as they easily pop-up after free trial registration. They don't even allow you to request a refund for accidental purchases. I'm doing you guys a favor: DON'T EVER TAKE ANY CLASSES FROM THIS GARBAGE SITE. They are more interested in your money than learning and they are trying to do emotional gymnastics and bs just to make you stay in their courses. Such LOW LIFE SCAMMERS.

    Free 4 week course

    SCAM ACADEMY
I signed up for a FREE 4 week Beauty course, thinking what did I have to lose!
I cancelled after 2 weeks as the course content was minimal, I was bombarded everyday with emails, texts and phone calls.
Took all the necessary steps to cancel my online account, phoned up a separate number, cancelled any payment subscriptions.
Even after following all these steps Shaw Academy have still 'stolen' £50 from my account.
A week of emails with unhelpful customer support staff, sending automated responses and refusing to refund me, I feel the need to write this review and let anyone thinking of signing up to think again!!
People like James Egan who founded this scam site, should be ashamed of themselves..... Lining their pockets with the money from hard working people just trying to better themselves!

    Shaw Academy ""FREE"" Trial

If I could give this company 0 Stars I would.

    SCAMMERS.

I signed up to the free trial, which I was aware you needed to cancel before the trial was up otherwise they charge you and can't refund you.

On Friday night I tried to cancel the trial BEFORE it was over, only to be informed that I had to call a call centre to cancel it and that the call centre was only open 9-5, Mon-Fri!!! They had not informed me at all that you had to cancel by calling them, and that their centres had limited opening times.

They then proceeded to charge me on the Saturday, after I had tried to cancel the trial but could not do so due to the company stopping my ability to do so.

I have been in contact with their customer and billing support, and they are refusing to give me a refund, even when I stuck by their terms and conditions and tried to cancel before my free trial was up.

I received exactly the same email as other customers:

    Hi Charlotte
Thank you for reaching out to us.
I have personally reviewed your account and found the following details:
    * The subscription has been initiated as 4-week free trial.
    * It was not cancelled during the trial period, so the payment was processed.
    * These terms are stated and accepted before account creation.T&C please see section 4 and 5.
We are unable to process subscription refunds unfortunately after the trial expiry, as per the terms and conditions.

DO NOT SIGN UP TO ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY. I am reporting them to Action Fraud, like many others have done so already.

    Graphic Design

The course was a prerecorded, incredibly basic lecture series during which I learnt nothing. Even with a free trial you have to pay £30 for course notes, which is ridiculous. I tried to cancel and had to go through 6 pages to do so, at which point they tell you to then call a number to confirm. I called this number and had to listen to 5 minutes of an automated voice telling me how I 'simply can't refuse this offer to further my education'. Yes I can, and no I don't want more free trials that will lock me into incessant loops of frustration as you insist on making it as difficult as possible to cancel my subscription.

Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design

NOT Level 5 Equivalent Education Courses
I didn't want to believe it. All these negative reviews. I thought perhaps they are just people that are grumbling because they didn't do as well as they thought they should have or whatever - that's not to discredit their claims, but more my utter stupidity that this company was a legitimate set up that truly offered education courses at the same standard of courses on the UK/EU qualification framework. Well, I feel like a fool! I have fully gone got GOT!!!

I signed up for the 4 weeks free trial, I thought "why not study whilst I'm at home and I have a little more time on my hands". Well, I completed the first module in 4 days. It was basic, to say the least. Not only that but despite 'free trial' you have to pay for study materials they call 'tool kits', I thought "well, they have to make their money somehow". Then you complete the module, you have to pass the final exam to reach the next module but you have to buy an e-certificate to do so. The information was basic but it was the foundation stuff, surely it's going to get harder, right?

Wrong! After some calculations, I figured out I'd actually be better off just paying for a subscription as they offer all the 'tool kits' and 'all certificates' (note the word 'all certificates' not 'e-certificates', but 'all certificates'). However, I would be forced to 'raise a ticket' requesting access to the very product I had, in fact, paid a full subscription for. The course continues, the content is horrendous! I have not learned anything new at all from watching the recorded lessons (that bit is quite important too) after each module you are to complete an assignment, well this assignment is nothing more than a pop quiz.

Four weeks have now past and I have apparently completed a FULL advanced diploma that is the equivalent to level 5 on the UK/EU qualification framework - and guest what, I have to pay for the hard copy certificate for my diploma despite having a full 'subscription' but I must hurry because it's on special offer for only two more days but that has been extended twice now.

Now I know you are wondering, "yes, but what course did you actually sign up for?". I signed up for the EQF Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design. Yet not once, not ever, have I in any way shape or form (pun intended) had to submit any work to be critiqued not have I ever even spoken to 'Course Tutor'.

Sarcasm and passive-aggressive writing over - this company is a joke! DO NOT GET SUCKED IN! I've raised a complaint with PayPal (I'm so thankful I paid through them!) Unfortunately, I've [somewhat]wasted 4 weeks of my time but at least I can provide a full depth and honest review. Please do your research into the company and do not sign up for any of their course because they not what they claim to be.

    Much love x

My circumstances changed and I did not use the free trial services so one week in, I emailed Shaw Academy to cancel. I signed up for the free trial but the courses I signed up for didn’t work. In addition, I was charged for an add on o did not want and they told me that they simply could not refund me. I didnt give them permission to take the money from my account, I couldn’t afford the charge and I didn’t want/need the add on. All I wanted was a refund but instead they gave me more stuff I didn’t want and would have to pay more in subscription fees to be able to utilise it. Awful service and awful website. To take money from your account without consent is not acceptable

    Marketing Course

DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR PAYMENT DETAILS!

They scam people who are trying to better themselves, who maybe can't afford regular courses or e-learning. Their courses, apart from being very drawn out, are a complete scam.
    They have:
    1. Taken my money out earlier and earlier each month so I am unable to cancel
    2. Refused to refund me
    3. Taken an additional payment AFTER telling me in an email that they've cancelled.

Disgusting, abhorrent behaviour. Laughable "customer service" as I have just received the same copy & pasted email over again. I have had to go through PayPal to try and get my money back.

Its a scam and big fraud to steal your money

I just joined the academy not even one recording played it just keeps on loading I tried on many different browsers. There is no way to talk to any customer support directly. When I was trying to play the recordings I must have accidently clicked on certificate which didnt show any price and instead of confirming if i want the certificate £39.95 was deducted from my account.
This seems like a scam I havent watched any classes so how can you even provide me with any certificate. When I emailed you saying I don't want it and requested a refund I got a reply saying it cant be done this is ridiculous.

    Graphic Design free trial

Do not sign up for any of their courses or give your bank details. I thought it was an okay albeit slightly irritating platform (the information was good within the course but their constant emails and texts are a nightmare) at first. A few weeks in they have charged me £99.95 for the 'extended modules' on my course after a confusing phone call which I never once agreed to. They had my paypal details because i signed up for a free trial with every intention of cancelling it before i was charged - but they've charged me for something i never agreed to in the first place. Their emails are unhelpful and misleading. No one seems to be offering me a refund and paypal are assisting them in the matter by denying my request to say the payment was unauthorised. All the positive reviews are either people who have not yet realised it is a scam, or are being posted by the company themselves. I do not think i will get my money back and i am still being bombarded with emails and texts despite cancelling my membership, blocking as many of their email addresses as i can, and 'opting out' of their texts. This is a nightmare do not be fooled.

    'free' photography course

Signed up for a 'free' course that I didn't like and stopped attending after 2 lessons. They initially bombarded me with calls and emails to try to upsell more options or course material so I deleted the app and blocked their numbers and emails.

2 weeks later, I received a notification I was billed for £49.99 for my shaw academy membership (unbeknown to me)

Imagine my surprise when I logged in and it claimed I was now in an active membership that I could not cancel. I went through 5 confirm screens, each one asking me to stay and offering me cheaper membership options. I got to the last screen where it said 'you need to call a number to cancel'.

This is utterly fraudulent and in breach of GDPR laws on so many levels, I don't know where to begin.

Filed a dispute with PayPal, who acknowledged it and cancelled any recurring payments and contacted shaw to try and get the account closed.

    Avoid like the plague.

    'Free Trial'... apparently

signed up to a Shaw Academy ‘free’ trial at the start of May (9/5/2020). I wanted to learn some new skills. Dubiously, I entered my card details as I signed up (as required) knowing that I would cancel before the end of the month’s trial. What I did not expect was that Shaw Academy would illegally and fraudulently take money out of my account without my permission., ignore my emails, and deny my cancellation.

I started the graphic design course, which was slow and poor quality. The website is set up where there are multiple buttons on any given page whereby, if you accidentally select, you will immediately be charged.

So I went to cancel my account. I needed to phone. The next working day, 11/5/2020 I phoned. After one very lengthy process I got through to an advisor called Qhamani Jonathan Dapo qj.dapo@success.shawacademy.com . He begged me to stay. I declined explaining that it was not the user experience I wanted. 20 minutes later I persuaded this ‘advisor’ to allow me to cancel. Suspicios, I asked for an email confirmation.

    The email reads:
    Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for your time earlier today.
As mentioned on the phone your membership with Shaw Academy has now been cancelled.
We appreciate you came to us with serious goals and we want to do all that we can to help during these challenging times.
What we would like to do now is to give you an additional two months totally free of charge. There will be no recurring charges thereafter. There are no strings. Just two months totally free of charge as a thank you to you and to help you achieve your goals.
If you want to keep studying after that great, if not there is no issue – we just want to help and we hope an additional two months for free will help you achieve your goals. This is just our way of saying thank you.

    Naturally, I did not reactivate.

During this time, I kept receiving email communications from Shaw Academy about my ‘classes’, I ignored them until the 29th of May where I sent an email in to the support system requesting to stop receiving emails. This ticket was ignored in contravention of GDPR laws.

Now, a month later from my initial signing up and I can see that Shaw Academy have taken £49.99 out of my account. I was shocked. I instantly emailed the ’support’ team and tried to phone. Of course, my phone call was not answered but led me to a carousel of ‘press 1 to reactivate your account.

The support team got back in touch with an email that read:

    Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for reaching out to us.

They then offered me a ‘deal’. I since emailed back with the confirmation and date of the account being cancelled and have demanded a refund. No response. I have contacted them on instagram and Facebook: no response.

Looking deeper, there is a petition for them to be investigated for fraud. I have signed this petition and will be instructing my friends to do so also. There is a whole instagram community around their fraud.

    www.change.org/p/www-cgso-org-za-have-sh aw-academy-investigated-for-fraud
    www.instagram.c om/shawacademy.fraud/

I demand a full refund immediately from Shaw Academy. I will be reporting them to ACTION FRAUD. If not, I will begin legal proceedings for their FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY and will not rest until I have relayed the truth about their heinous business practices on every review site and social media site available. I am currently contacting newspapers about their activities at this time. I am also escalating this with my Bank to look into the transaction as a fraudulent withdrawal of funds.

    4 Week Free Trial

    Shaw Academy is a SCAM

I, like many others, signed up to Shaw Academy for the free trial, as I wanted to try out their trading course. I wanted to up-skill myself during the pandemic. I only wish I had looked at the review sites before I did, because I absolutely would not and should not have signed up for this scam. I hadn’t even been on the website 5 minutes when I clicked something about an e-certificate. This turned out to be a one-click purchase which charged me £39.95 immediately, without me even knowing what it was for. It didn’t even say anything about a price or purchase, I simply clicked the word ‘e-certificate’ to see what it meant and it cost me 40 quid. I then emailed Shaw Academy, asking for my money back (and came onto review sites and saw that I was not the only one upset with them). Their response makes absolutely no sense, see below:

“Your Certificate is incredibly helpful as it gives you a goal to work towards and employment. Your Certificate also provides documentary proof of your completion of this program which is very important and helps students greatly. You just have to click on the "Get E-Certificate" button to take the final assignment online and complete the final assignment with a 50% score or higher, you will receive the certificate via email.
Once the E-Certificate is activated in your account, the final assignment is made available to you immediately hence it cannot be disabled or the access cannot be revoked. Hence, we will not be able to process the refund as per our terms and conditions. Click Here to review the same in particular section 5.8.”

I haven’t even done any of the lessons yet (and don’t want to now), so why have I been charged for a certificate for an exam I haven’t even taken, never mind passed? They have credited my account with $199 to spend on their courses, which obviously I do not want, I just want my £39.95 back and to not have anything to do with this scam company again. I’ve blocked all future payments to them from leaving my bank account, and I am in the process of trying to claim the £39.95 back as loss to fraud, as this company is fraudulent, unethical and completely taking advantage of people who are looking to learn something during a global crisis.

I would not recommend Shaw Academy at all. It is most definitely a scam. There is no place to cancel your membership online, it’s way too easy to make a one-click purchase (even Amazon gives you more warning), and their emails don’t make any sense. I am upset and disappointed, and I’ll be taking this as far as I can to ensure that I get my money back.

Free trial period yet charged 49.99 euros

SCAM just.... Do not try. I signed up on 2nd June 2020 for a free 28-day trial period for project management. In trying to review what a module had to offer.......BOOM!!!!! 49.99€ out of my account on the same day (2nd June 2020). Tired of sending emails asking for a refund.

If you are in the UK phone your bank and ask for a chargeback. You will get the cash back. Tell them about these reviews and the bad reviews on trustpilot. I just did it and the money is back in my account now.

    Scam!!!

Any positive reviews you are seeing are fake! The learning material is pretty limited and here’s the best part - to sign up for the free trial they take your card details. They then charge you £49.99 after the four week trial period with no prior warning advising that free trial is running out. I have been trying to get a refund from them for best part of a week with back and forth communication on the basis that I haven’t used the site after the first week and they don’t pre warn of charging like most reputable companies would - they are refusing. Absolutely disgusting company who bank on people forgetting to cancel their subscription and take your money without your consent. Shameful at a time when many are struggling to feed themselves. Please do yourself a favour and don’t sign up to these scam artists. I will be reporting them
