Half a Saturday taken back by a barcode

Communication

the kit itself was meant for my campervan conversion so the alternator could top up the leisure battery (because I’m not about to sit in a cold van at night with a dead battery). Some of the Renogy bits I bought worked fine, honestly; they’re decent value. But the MPPT that wouldn’t charge from the alternator turned a weekend project into a two-week admin circus. The one thing I want to pick apart here is the communication — specifically, being told to use a “messages” tab that simply doesn’t exist in their service centre. I spent ages redoing tests, filming things, following step-by-step instructions, only to be told later to recheck stuff I’d already sent video proof of. It’s maddening. I’m a qualified electrician and a chartered mechanical engineer, so I’m not brand new to diagnosing gear, and I did everything they asked. Yet their replies often missed what I showed, or suggested fixes I had already performed. After they agreed to replace the unit and issued a returns label, they then threatened to close the case unless the unit was posted immediately — which forced that frantic Saturday run. They confirmed a replacement order a few days later, and then… silence. A week went by and the only update after I chased was “not yet shipped.” That’s the other thing: the systems and processes feel clunky, and staff — who I actually feel sorry for — seem undertrained or hamstrung by poor tooling. So, to be fair, when gear does work it’s fine and is good value; but when it fails you’re left twisting in the wind, wasting hours on diagnostics and messages that don’t actually resolve anything. I wanted a reliable setup for travelling and peace of mind; instead I got a lesson in stubborn customer service. Not a total disaster — the working products have been solid so far — but the warranty and support experience made me decide I won’t be buying from them again. If you’re buying Renogy stuff, hope it works out of the box; if not, be ready for a long runaround.
