Mid-flight thoughts on a long hop south

Service

Halfway through the flight I found myself dozing with my head against the window and thinking about how weirdly mixed this trip felt. The seat was actually pretty comfy for an economy long-haul — decent cushion, the lumbar support did its bit, and the recline wasn’t that awkward jammed-in kind. Legroom was average but manageable, and the footrest was a nice surprise for my kid; he kept propping his feet up and making little comments about how it felt like a mini couch. The tray table was a bit wobbly, though, and the screen sometimes lagged when you tried to skip ahead on the map, so small irritations there, but nothing game-breaking.

Mixed but informative

I’ve had other carriers mess up paperwork too, so I came in wary and stayed wary. But the actual flights were fine, on time, seats as expected. So my doubts didn’t entirely vanish, but they eased a bit because the service in the air was competent and the second check‑in was smooth. Bottom line: inconsistent handling on the ground, passable in flight, customer service needs work. I’ve escalated this to regulators and I’d advise others to double‑check requirements and carry printouts just in case.

That “just toss it” moment stuck with me

Service

the website. I tried multiple times to buy extra allowance online because I like sorting stuff ahead of time. Card was the same one I used to buy the ticket and worked fine everywhere else that week, but the payment just kept failing. No clear error, no useful message. It felt like the site gave up on me, so I figured I’d sort it at check-in. That’s where things went sideways fast. At the counter they quoted an eye-watering fee for the extra kilos — way, way higher than what the site had suggested during web check-in — and when I asked why, there was basically no explanation. Then the supervisor said, rather casually, “throw the baggage if you cannot afford to pay.” I mean, that line kept circling in my head; it’s the sort of thing that makes you feel small and puts you on the spot in front of other travellers. I told them I’d rather buy another seat, but they insisted the flight was full. Feeling pressured and cornered, I ended up paying the charge — not proud of that, but it was either pay or lose the bag and delay my trip. On arrival in Bangalore, the trolley’s plastic wrap was gone and the case had clear scratches and scuffs, which really stung since it was new. That damage felt like the final insult after being forced into that payment. What keeps me from being completely angry-for-life is that I did at least file a formal complaint once I landed. I haven’t got a full resolution yet, just an automated acknowledgement, but having that paper trail makes me feel like there’s a chance they’ll look into the website glitches and the behaviour at the counter. Also, I’ll say this: even though the day itself was stressful, it didn’t ruin my trip — I got where I needed, used the trolley in the city, and the scratching is annoying but manageable. I’m sharing this mainly because the way staff talk to people matters, and the tech side needs to not fail when it’s supposed to help. If you travel with extra baggage, double‑check things early, screenshot prices and availability, and maybe brace yourself for a bit of theatre at the desk. I’m cautiously hopeful that the complaint will lead to something useful — otherwise, I’ll just be a tad more paranoid next time.

Late nights, missing bags and way too many peanuts

30. Then up again at 05:30 for a minibus to the airport. My partner and daughter are vegetarian and there was no way to flag that at booking, so the “three meals” all had meat, small portions — not great. Also peanuts handed out to everyone, which felt irresponsible. Some things were handled fine — bag returned, rebooked — so I’m relieved it wasn’t worse, but not impressed overall.
