Early-bird, last-on
Early-bird, last-on
Funny thing — I got to the terminal ages early, coffee in hand, headed to a weekend visit, expecting to stroll on, but ended up one of the last to board. The sea was choppy so the ferry itself was late by under an hour; fair enough, happens. Staff were friendly and actually helpful when I asked about luggage, which I appreciated. Still, if you show up early you shouldn't be stuck at the back of the line. Small tweak and it'd be great.
Almost gave up, then it clicked

Sitting on my porch with a mug of coffee, I almost threw my phone across the yard. The app kept freezing on the form and the binary gender question felt like a relic from the 90s. Support answers were polite but missed the point a few times, so I had to repeat myself. I reloaded, re-entered details, sighed, you know the drill. Then the moment came — a clear confirmation email landed and the ticket showed up in the app. That’s when I actually relaxed and thought, okay, this will work. I use it for my daily commute to the island cottage, and after that hiccup it did the job. Not perfect, but fine. Could be smoother, but I’m content for now.
Cabin thermostat tells the truth
Cabin thermostat tells the truth
On-sitefirst thing after boarding I fiddle with the cabin thermostat (yes, I'm that person). On the Barcelona boats that little test often turns into a full-on micro-drama — either you're shivering like it's October in Nunavut or you're in a sauna set to 'tropical holiday', and the dial might as well be ornamental. That niggle made me suspicious of everything else on board; sure enough, the loo situation sometimes felt like a sketch comedy bit and asking crew for details about delays usually produced a friendly shrug and very little useful info (language barrier, or just not their thing). One time the engines hiccuped and there was no real announcement — just an awkward pause and us guessing whether we should open our sea legs or fetch snacks. Still, I don't want to trash the whole fleet. The fast ferries out of Denia are a breath of fresh air: tight maintenance, quick crossings, and fewer chances for sweaty sweaters. For our family weekend escapes and the odd midweek beach run they're now my preference — more time on the sand, less time wondering what went wrong. So I went in skeptical, experienced a few gross moments, and came away oddly satisfied that at least one route gets the basics right.
Not the worst, but not something I’d trust again

CommunicationI wouldn’t pick this ferry company if you have options, though they did get us across eventually so it’s not total disaster. I got stuck in a queue in Spain — booked a 13:30 sailing and ended up waiting from late morning into the night. Lots of people, cars lined up, and pretty much zero info. They kept saying crossings were cancelled because of weather, but two other operators ran several sailings while we didn’t move, so that excuse felt weak. The real problem was the silence: no clear updates, staff weren’t telling us anything useful, the app that promised to keep you informed was quiet, and we were left guessing. After hours someone finally spoke up, arranged a later departure and offered a small partial refund/voucher, which helped calm things down. The crew at boarding were apologetic and worked fast once they opened things up, so the end leg was fine. If you’ve travelled with smaller companies before you know this can happen, and I’ve had worse surprises elsewhere, but the lack of communication here felt amateurish. In short, plan for delays, bring food and patience, and don’t assume the company will keep you posted. It’s a meh experience — frustrating at first, slightly redeemed later, but I won’t be recommending them to friends.
