PC Matic - Reviews and experiences

I’m pretty disappointed right now. I started using PCMatic a few weeks ago and at first it seemed fine — clean interface, quick setup — so I thought, okay, this will do. Then one day a full scan got stuck around 25% and sat there for 17 hours. I contacted “Expert” support and the first tech couldn’t fix it, told me to remove version 5 and gave me a link to install version 4. I did that and things only got worse. Over several days different techs tried a few more fixes, none worked. They keep sending step-by-step emails that don’t match what’s on my screen because I’m now running that old version they had me install. PCMatic advertises phone support but I haven’t actually been able to get anyone on the phone — it’s all email and canned replies. I do still like some parts of the program, so I’m not totally writing it off, but right now I have no working scan and it’s frustrating. A real phone call, just once, would’ve helped a lot.

I was staring at the call log my bank sent me, the one with a phone number that actually connected, and I left a calm but firm voicemail. Weirdly satisfying. We’d signed up months earlier because a neighbour — honestly, a friend — told us about this product and we liked that it said “Made in the USA” on the site. That mattered to us, it still does. For a while it felt fine, like supporting something local and straightforward. Then the surprises started: a $211.44 withdrawal when the advertising said different, then a notice that our machines weren’t covered anymore with no refund for the unused time. We emailed, called numbers that went nowhere, tried every route. It was the slow drip of attempts and silence that finally pushed me to act. Leaving that voicemail wasn’t glamorous, but it was the moment I knew I wasn’t going to quietly accept it. I’m relieved we pushed back, partly because we value the principle — made-in stuff matters to us — and partly because standing up felt right. That doesn’t change the bad bits: weak customer contact, confusing billing, and a feeling they didn’t honour what they promised. Still, there’s a bit of closure now. If they want better reviews, hire people who pick up phones and actually solve problems. I’d tell friends to be cautious, and to keep a close eye on bank statements.
