The place smelled stale, things looked like nobody had lived there for months, dog bedding was filthy, the garden was overgrown — honestly felt unsafe and not at all what I’d expected. I called Rover the same evening and heard nothing until the next day; then Rover Italy apologised and offered payment for one day minus fees. That was better than silence, sure, and I’m grateful they replied and owned up a bit, but it didn’t cover the time I lost, the cleaning I felt forced to do when it wasn’t my job, or the nights I couldn’t sleep because of the smell and dust. I cancelled for health reasons. So my doubts before booking were justified, some were addressed — they responded — but not resolved fully. If you’re thinking about this platform for housesitting, be ready to ask who exactly will be there, what condition the home is in, and to document everything. Small thanks for the apology, but still disappointed by the lack of follow-through and fair compensation.
