Walking past a café, my friend raved about it. I was sceptical — then the refund arrived, really relieved.

Pretty disappointing overall. A coworker sent me the link so I gave it a shot, but the site is clunky and every click steers you back to a sales pitch. I bought the live tutorials — most didn’t load, though a couple small tips were actually useful.

Finally a smooth run

I'd needed this while moving after bad runs. The site had been useless for months; I kept clearing the cache every time. One day it loaded straight away and my booking went through. I was surprised the confirmation showed exact times. Felt satisfied and relieved right then. Still cautious though.

Handy, with a few glitches

Use this every morning on the bus and in the evening with dinner. Delivery was quick and customer support fixed a billing issue fast. Lessons sometimes skip explanations and a few answers are unclear, but I still learn enough to use in daily life.

Stuck on the basics

Halfway through my coffee break I realised the app kept sending me the same tiny exercises — the ones I already get almost every time (about 98% right). Good for quick practice, but frustrating when you want to move on. I wish it was easier to pick level or exercise type. Took me a bit, but I’m mostly happy.

Tiny Hitch, Good Lessons

you have to follow the set plan and it doesn't let you jump around, and I kept having to remember where I stopped. First impression was positive overall, glad it worked out despite that clunky progress view.

Finally started actually speaking
3 reviews
I realized I was sold when I caught myself chatting away with my neighbour in French and not panicking — that moment made me confident. I’d tried cheaper apps and a boring night course, but moving to Montreal forced me to find something that stuck. Rosetta Stone did exactly that, gradual, simple, and it just clicked.

Sale made the difference

I remember when I finally nailed a whole speaking lesson — that’s when I knew it worked. First saw the lifetime deal in a promo email and told my partner. Lessons are clear, resources solid and the speech recognition actually surprised me, caught a nuance I didn’t expect. Only gripe is price if no deal.

Digital lifetime, short-lived
23 reviews
I cracked open my old Spanish course because I needed it for a summer job in Montreal. It felt familiar and kind of cozy — phrases, voice prompts, a bit clunky sometimes. Then I tried to redownload and found the digital version was discontinued; my "lifetime" access vanished. Worked fine back then, not perfect now. I'm wary to buy again anytime soon.

AirPods don't play nice with the mic
3 reviews
I grabbed this app last month for some speaking practice on my commute. At first it seemed fine, but pretty quickly my AirPods barely picked up my voice — I had to shout answers and that wrecked my pronunciation. Tried to get a refund but ran into a strict 30‑day, no‑exceptions policy and support wasn't helpful. Ended up switching to Duolingo and Babbel, which work fine with AirPods.

Not perfect, but it works

Walked in skeptical — "lifetime" sounded too good, and after an OS change I almost gave up when a new client was needed. I started using it last fall on my work laptop; first impressions were fine, simple and reliable. I only relaxed the day support laid out a reasonable upgrade route and a low‑cost option — had to pay again, but it actually works.

Stuck on a month-to-month

I was clicking through the sign-up on a slow Tuesday night, pretty unsure about a month-to-month plan and whether I'd be stuck. I started using the service right away — a few weeks ago — and at first it did what I needed, nothing flashy but solid. My real worry was cancelling, and that worry turned out to be justified. The cancellation page just keeps loading. I tried the same step three times over a month, called support and got nowhere. Kind of annoyed and a little resigned. So my doubts didn't exactly disappear.

Switching devices is a pain

I was midway through a commute, trying to pull up a quick lesson on my phone, when the app told me I had to log out of my laptop first — even though I hadn’t used it in days. The phone experience itself is fine, the lessons load and the interface feels clean, but being blocked like that is really annoying when you’re on the go. I needed this for short practice during travel and for my sore back I prefer to move around, not sit at a desk, so mobile access matters. It would be simple to let people sign in on more than one device or auto-logout after inactivity. I filled out the feedback form about it and haven’t heard back, which made me shrug and keep using it anyway. Not perfect, but useful once you’re actually logged in.

Almost gave up twice

I bought the old CD boxed set years ago, moved on, then decided to use the software again as a supplement to the twice-weekly tutor sessions I pay for. The lessons themselves? Still solid. I surprise myself by saying a sentence in Chinese at work and people actually understand me — so it did stick, which is the weird nice part in all this chaos.
But here's the thing I want to harp on: the login/renewal loop. Click renew, it logs you out. Try to buy a new subscription, it recognises your email and asks you to log in. Log in, and you’re back where you started. I probably tried this more than I should admit. There’s an odd feeling — like the site is playing keep-away with your money. Even worse, the program remembers my old progress (levels 1–5 saved), yet somehow expects me to pay again to "continue". Greedy? Glitch? Who knows. Resetting progress is impossible; you can't easily tell where you left off, which makes using it alongside my live lessons clumsy.
Customer support is basically a myth. When you do get a person, it's not terribly helpful — apologies, but no solution. That’s frustrating because the content is useful during my commute and actually helped with pronunciation (speech-recognition surprised me a few times by being helpful). So there's potential here, real value, but the account/subscription experience is the part that ruins it.
If they fixed the login flow and made progress management honest, I’d come back in a heartbeat. As it stands: useful product trapped inside a maddening sales/account maze. Use it if you already have it, but buying fresh? Think twice.

That moment I breathed out
1 reviews
I bought the lifetime Rosetta Stone because I’d used it years ago and it felt like great value for how I study languages in bits and pieces between work and walks. It has the lesson variety, stories and videos — all the stuff I like — but this time it just didn’t click with how I learn. So I decided to cancel within the 30-day guarantee and honestly, getting to that calm moment was a roller coaster. The website makes buying easy, too easy maybe, but contacting them? The phone numbers on the UK site didn’t work, and the chat kept dropping me to an email suggestion — very odd. I was genuinely worried it might be impossible to get my money back, which is annoying when the subscription felt like a good deal. The good bit: the email route did work. I sent the refund request and they processed it the same day. That same-day response is what turned my frustration into relief — I actually felt reassured, like, okay they’re real and they do honour the guarantee. So overall: product wasn’t right for my learning style this time, ordering was straightforward, customer contact was frustrating except for the email which saved the day. Small emotional win at the end, but they should fix those phone and chat options — saves others the extra stress.

Little wins on my way to Swedish
7 reviews
you read, record, and it highlights what you missed. That helped me notice tiny pronunciation slips I never would’ve caught on my own. The speech recognition was a bit hit-and-miss sometimes — say things slowly — but overall it nudged me to speak out loud more, and that’s been useful in day-to-day practice. Where it fell short was the lesson design: lots of repetition of pictures and words without clear explanations of why forms change, so sometimes I was left guessing. If you’ve got another resource for grammar it helps a lot to pair them. Still, I’m glad I tried it — I can now handle basic phrases when chatting with friends or ordering food, and that little confidence boost matters. Price felt okay for a trial run, though I wouldn’t call it perfect value unless you combine it with other study. In short: not flawless, a bit repetitive, but the recording feedback made the whole thing worth it for me.

Fast access, unclear prompts
7 reviews
digital access was immediate and logging in was painless — I had access within minutes of ordering and the delivery was basically instant, which surprised me compared with slower services I’ve used before. Customer support was decent too; I sent a question about the interface and got a clear reply the same day with a couple of tips that made a difference. The problem is the lesson format itself: lots of pictures and Spanish phrases, but no English line to check what a sentence actually means. That makes it hard to tell whether a word is describing the person or the action, and I kept guessing. If they showed the English phrase alongside the Spanish it would be much clearer. Overall satisfied with delivery and support, less so with the learning prompts.

About Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone Inc. is an education technology company based in the United States that specializes in language learning software and services. Founded in 1992 by Allen Stoltzfus and named after the ancient artifact that had unlocked the secrets of Egyptian hieroglyphics for linguists, the company has aimed to harness technology to facilitate language learning. Rosetta Stone's proprietary software uses interactive exercises and immersion techniques to help users learn new languages without translations or memorization of vocabulary lists. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings to include programs for 30 languages and serves individuals, educational institutions, and corporations worldwide. The company's approach is based on simulating a natural language-learning experience, much like how a child learns to speak, through recognizing patterns and intuitive associations between images and meanings.
