Account setup that ate an hour — could be smoother

App & Portal
entered the activation code, filled in the form, clicked sign up and then… the site dumped me with a message that I’d taken too long. Okay, fair enough, maybe I dawdled, but it logged me out without telling me what state my account was in. So I call for help.
I got bounced around. I called one number, then another, and then another — each time having to explain the whole story from the top, which I did, and then again, and again. You end up feeling like you’re repeating yourself to a wall. The voice prompts and the fast-fire "for technical help call this number" messages are useless if you can't jot them down quickly. That in itself is annoying because I was on my lunch break and every minute counts.
When I finally reached a person who sounded like they were trying, they told me to use Chrome instead of Edge. Fine, I switched browsers, cleared history, did the whole dance, and then the site behaved differently on Chrome than the rep’s screen looked. So either the instructions on their end are inconsistent or the site is flaky across browsers — either way, not great. Then the rep said she’d hang up to let me finish and I had to basically beg her to stay on the line. I didn't want to be disconnected and have to start over with someone else.
After more fiddling, another error popped up — technical problem, try later. I was told by a rep that my account had actually been activated on that first try but then got locked, which explains why the later attempts failed. If that’s true, someone should have checked that before making me re-do everything. It’s the small stuff — a quick check on the account status would have saved me a lot of time.
To be fair, there was one rep at the end who stayed patient and walked me through a password reset — and that worked. That was a pleasant surprise; I wasn’t expecting anyone to stick with it. They also sent the reset email promptly, even though the rep mentioned a 15-minute wait before using it and the mail itself didn’t say that. So communication between channels is messy.
Overall, this is a useful service for someone like me who uses it to monitor credit while juggling house hunting, bills, kids' stuff — the everyday money anxiety — but the delivery and customer service need work. The tech glitches and the inconsistent instructions make something simple drag on and waste time. If they fixed the handoff between web instructions and phone agents, and standardized what browser to use (or made the site work in all browsers), it would be much less painful. Right now I’m relieved it’s set up, but also annoyed at the time lost.
Credit report purchase
Credit report purchase
App & PortalI recently bought my credit report from your company and I had a pretty annoying experience, eh. I got an email saying it was ready, but then couldn't find it online so had to call for help, y'know. Spent nearly 2 hours on the phone talking to 5 different folks, all with pretty thick accents that made it hard to understand, eh. None of 'em could really help me find the info on the website, and they couldn't even explain why I got the email in the first place, eh. One of 'em even had trouble figuring out how many months are in a year, can you believe it, eh. Was pretty disappointed to see the customer service team lacking in listening and communication skills, eh.
Credit score subscription
Credit score subscription
App & PortalI signed up for their credit score service, and it definitely helped boost my credit score. But when I wanted to cancel, it was such a hassle. Why do I need to go through all this trouble just to end a subscription? It's frustrating and so old-fashioned. They don't make it easy to leave - making us go through long phone calls and transfers between staff. They even blocked me from my account, saying they couldn't verify my identity on the same device I used to join and pay. It's just ridiculous.
