As someone who loves art, I was really excited to buy art through this platform. But to be honest, I've been pretty disappointed so far. I paid more for the paintings than they're worth now, which is a real bummer because I was hoping to make some money back. Plus, the fees are way too high, and it feels like the company doesn't care about selling the paintings because they're still making money off my shares. I tried reaching out to Paul Colnaghi about this, and to get them to stop sending me so many marketing emails, but no luck.
They haven't been great at keeping me updated on how my investments are doing, and with the fees piling up, I'm starting to feel frustrated and unsure about this whole thing. I haven't seen any returns on my investments yet, and all the pressure to buy more paintings just makes me even more disappointed. Honestly, my time with this platform has been pretty meh, and I'd warn others to think twice before jumping in without seeing any returns.
About Masterworks
Masterworks is a company that offers individuals the opportunity to invest in shares of fine art. Founded in 2017 by CEO Scott Lynn, it operates by purchasing artwork, then creating an LLC for each piece and filing an offering with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, allowing investors to buy shares in the artwork, much like stock in a company. This model aims to make investing in high-value art accessible to a broader range of investors, beyond the traditionally wealthy. By providing this platform, Masterworks allows for the democratization of art investment, offering potential financial returns while also engaging with the cultural and aesthetic values of the art world.
