PriceWe were on the fence for weeks, thinking subscriptions are usually junk, but decided to try this for the property tax dispute. At first I braced for the usual runaround, after a couple bad experiences with other companies, but they actually handled the appeal and I got a reduction. Still wish pricing was clearer, but overall, honestly relieved and pleasantly surprised.

ServiceI first saw them on a neighbourhood Facebook post and tipped my brother. Sent every document. Felt like I showed receipts to a brick wall. Decision arrived saying my house was worth way more than I sold it for. Customer service was slow and polite but useless. Pretty frustrated, honestly.

TermsI found out the hard way that after they lower your property assessment they still bill you based on the projected refund, even though pulling the actual refund from the county is your job. That fee is taken whether you get money back or not. I'd had clearer terms with another firm, so this was kind of annoying.

ServiceHalfway through the appeal I realized they had it under control. No drama, just clear notes, solid arguments and a result that actually cut my property tax. That was the moment I relaxed and thought, okay, this was worth it. Fee wasn't cheap but it saved me time and headaches, and I'm quietly relieved. Would tell a neighbour to try them if you hate paperwork.

ComplaintsI signed up after a colleague tipped me off — I wanted someone else to handle my 2023 SF tax appeal since I was swamped. They dragged it out for almost three years, produced nothing useful and then refused to keep fighting. Kinda frustrating, especially since refunds happen in these situations. Felt like I paid for peace of mind and got radio silence instead. Won't be recommending them.

CommunicationI was halfway through my morning coffee when the confirmation email landed — that’s the moment I realised this wasn’t going to drag on forever. I’d signed up to keep my property tax stuff organized (so I’m not scrambling every spring) and at first communication was spotty, yeah. I had to nudge them more than once. But in the end they sent the full paperwork and the final decision — everything I needed to close the file. Not perfect, not slick, but honestly a relief. I’m glad I stuck with it, and now I can get back to daily life without that tax cloud hanging over me. So, grateful it worked out, and I’d use them again with clearer expectations.

Communication
I’m glad I tried Ownwell for the 2025 appeal, but don’t expect fireworks. I went in pretty skeptical — their marketing looked great on paper — and came out quietly relieved that something got knocked off my assessment, yet annoyed by how it all played out. I’m a homeowner who keeps a close eye on the tax bill every year (it’s part of the monthly budgeting routine, paying the mortgage, watching every dollar), so when my assessment jumped a ton I wanted someone to handle the hassle. Ownwell did handle it — they submitted the appeal, it was accepted, and the assessment dropped by about $21,000 which translated to $168 saved in taxes. That’s small, yes, but it’s still money back and a lower base for future bills, so it matters to me.
What bothered me: communication was thin. I got an email saying the appeal was filed and later that it was accepted, but I had to chase or wait to find out what number they had argued and why. Also their site estimate had promised much more than what actually materialized, which felt like overpromising. The bill at the end took 35% of the tiny tax savings (that’s their fee) and they tacked on $20 for something the county does automatically — the freeze — which felt a bit cheeky. Still, despite the bumps I’d say the process saved me time and worry, which I value; I could have done it myself maybe, but this was easier, and for a busy homeowner that’s worth something.
So: cautious thumbs up. If you want someone to shoulder the paperwork and you accept modest savings and some imperfect communication, Ownwell will do the job. If you expect big wins or crystal-clear updates every step, temper expectations.
