A long goodbye that went sideways

Communication

aggressive, insulting, not interested in facts. I tried to explain calmly. I highlighted that charging for a service you aren’t providing is problematic. I even sent them summaries from AI and clear explanations about why a chargeback was reasonable in such a case. They ignored the substance. One reply simply called me a hypocrite and used language that read like a tantrum. Another, short message read something along the lines of, "Have fun staying in collections," which felt intentionally hostile. That line stuck with me. It’s a small thing, but it says a lot about their attitude.
There were a few bright spots. One staff member, Jason, answered in a reasonable and polite way, which made me note that not everyone there behaved like that. I said so to him. I appreciated that reply. It made the company feel less monolithic, and it gave me a little hope that maybe someone in management would step in. I asked that the people who sent the horrible emails be disciplined, or better yet, let go if this was how they acted routinely. I wanted some accountability. I didn’t get a satisfying answer. Jason’s response felt evasive on some points. He was polite, but the core behaviour wasn’t addressed.
There was an unexpected, small relief at the end of this story. After I migrated everything and set up the site on a new platform, Squarespace, I finally saw the site load properly — first time in years. That tiny victory surprised me and felt oddly redeeming. It reminded me why I left in the first place. It also made me more certain my decision to move was right. So there’s that positive detail: the site actually worked, which I didn’t expect after so many problems.
All said, I remain mildly critical but honest. I paid for a service that didn’t function for a long time. I disputed a questionable charge. I got charged back. Their response was heavy-handed and personal. I’d have preferred calm, a clear negotiation, or at least a professional discussion. Instead I got threats and insults. That turned what could have been a reasonable resolution into an ugly, drawn-out mess. If you’re considering them, weigh the risks. If you’re already a customer and things start failing, don’t assume polite responses will follow. Keep records. Expect to fight for a fair outcome. I still think some people there are competent — Jason for instance — but the company’s overall approach in my case was unacceptable. I left for real. It wasn’t an easy decision, but finally seeing the site work again made me feel it was the right one.
