Pretty but poor support

Service

I set the pepper grinder on the counter the day it arrived and everyone commented on it. It looked great. I used it daily for about 18 months. Then the top stopped sitting on the bottom and if you lift it, peppercorns spill everywhere. The delivery was good — came on time and well packed, which was a pleasant surprise. But customer service wasn’t. Heals wouldn’t help after a year and Tom Dixon refused to repair or still offer a replacement top. Bit disappointing and really wasteful for the price, honestly.

Little-window, big-satisfaction

Product

Unwrapping it on my kitchen table, I actually laughed — not because it was perfect, but because the piece looked way better in real life than on the website. A co-worker had tipped me off a few weeks earlier, so I went in kind of skeptical. The moment I knew I was actually happy? When the neighbour poked his head over the fence and asked where I got it, and when my clumsy spill didn’t ruin the finish — surprise. It’s not luxury-level and the price made me pause, but the design won me over. It arrived quicker than I expected, too.

Quietly useful lamp

Product

solid metal, neat details. The smart side made me wary though. It didn’t advertise Matter clearly, and my house is a mix of hubs. Setup was fiddly. Out of the box voice control wouldn’t behave. I tried a Hue Bridge and a Zigbee stick. Took time. I almost returned it. Then the turning point came. After grouping it properly it dimmed without hesitation. The app controls were responsive. Voice timers kicked in. It’s not flawless. It needs patience, and some gear you might already have or need to buy. Still, that evening when the lamp obeyed my command and held the level I asked for, I felt satisfied. Not thrilled, just properly satisfied.

Not quite what I expected

Product

I almost talked myself out of buying these — I’ve owned a couple of their simple ceiling fittings before and they look great, so I figured the Press table lamp would be the same. Turns out my hesitation had merit. Out of the box the dimmable lamps didn’t play nicely with a basic smart plug (just on/off) which is what I’d planned to use. Spoke to customer service and sales; the first calls were slow and not very helpful, and I was ready to send them back. After a couple of emails and a bit of persistence they agreed to swap the cable sets so the lamps could be used more flexibly, and in the end they covered part of the cost — which I appreciated. That said, the whole thing felt avoidable if product specs were clearer from the start or if the company standardised how their ranges work. I still like how they look, and I’m relieved it didn’t remain a fight, but I’m a bit annoyed by the extra hassle and the initial lack of straightforward answers. If you’re considering these, ask specifically about smart-plug/dimmer compatibility before buying. I’ll still recommend them to friends who value design, but with a warning.

Little shop find turned into a story

Product

I first saw these near the back of a tiny design shop and nudged my buddy to look — we both fell for the shape right away. Ordered online afterwards; delivery was actually quicker than I expected and the box arrived neat and well wrapped, so that was a relief. The lamps are gorgeous, really — sleek, stainless, proper design pieces — but then the one by my window started to discolour, loads of dark streaks and spots that didn’t buff off. I was pretty sceptical at first, annoyed even, because they’re not cheap and I thought, hmm, maybe I made a mistake. Anyhow, I rang Customer Service and to my surprise they were calm and helpful, no drama, offered a replacement or a cleaning solution and walked me through next steps. That turned my mood around — I’m actually pleased with how it was handled. Still love the look, I told a friend to get one too, and I’ll keep it away from direct window glass this time.
