Made Trade is the place to go for ethical home goods and gifts. The stuff I've bought so far has blown me away with the quality and design. The idea of Made Trade is really great, they focus on products that are made ethically to support local artisans and communities. I was so excited to order a beautiful rocking chair from Masaya & Co in El Salvador, knowing that it was having a positive impact. But, the experience with their customer service was not the best. The first chair I got made loud popping noises, which was disappointing and not good for rocking my baby to sleep. When I contacted Maddie JoLanders, I thought they would send a replacement, but then I found out they wanted me to keep the faulty chair. This was frustrating, especially since my family was going through changes because of the pandemic. The second chair they sent had a broken handle, making things even more disappointing. When Maddie only offered a 50% discount on both chairs, I was not satisfied and felt like I was being misled. I ended up leaving negative reviews on different platforms to try to get a solution, and luckily, one of the owners eventually offered a full refund. Their intentions are good, but they need to work on being clearer and resolving customer issues more quickly to truly live up to their values of being transparent and fair.
