A little hiccup that actually ended well

Service

Pulled into the parking lot thinking this would be a quick grab-and-go for my Orange Whip mid-size — I use it almost every morning for short swing routines before work and for weekend warm-ups at the range. The initial scan setback was annoying; apparently the store had a recall on that batch. I was ready to leave, but the assistant manager actually took a minute to help. They checked other stores, put one on hold, and even set me up with a temporary loaner I could use the same day. That small bit of effort changed everything. I left feeling relieved and honestly impressed, especially since the loaner actually worked better than I expected. Still wish the website was clearer, but the in-store fix saved the day.

Not what I expected

Service

I walked into the mall shop on a random afternoon, not really sure what I needed. The first staff member I met was brusque. Short answers, zero patience. It felt awkward. Later I saw the same person speaking harshly to a couple of kids. That stuck with me. I told the manager. Still, I needed a putter for my daughter’s lessons, so I hung around. Then Robert showed up. Calm, actually listened, asked simple questions and didn’t make us feel small. That was the turning point — the moment I knew I’d be okay. He let my daughter try a few swings right there, gave practical tips, and recommended something that fit her size and our budget. Now she uses it at home and at her weekly lesson, and honestly it’s been great for her confidence. Not perfect overall. The first interaction left a bad taste. But the helpful follow-up and the way Robert handled things made the purchase feel fair. I’d go back, but not without some hesitation.

Yellow balls and awkward moments

Service

should I call first, should I trust the site? In the end I decided to trust it and went in. While rifling through the ball display I accidentally dropped a box and, yeah, it opened. I was crouched picking them up, a little embarrassed, when this manager — Steve — came barreling over real quick. He didn’t ask if I was okay or if I needed help, he just asked in a loud way if I was trying to move balls around to take same-numbered ones together. I said I’d dropped the box and was picking them up, and that I was actually looking for the yellow box the site had showed. I tried to give him a chance to rephrase, to be polite — I honestly did — but he doubled down and said “a lot of people do it so,” like that excuses being accusatory to a customer. People nearby were looking over, and I felt that flush of “uh-oh” and decided right then I didn’t want to buy anything there that day. I handed back the socks I’d picked up, said something about being a frequent shopper but that I wasn’t coming back because of how he handled it, and left. So, did my doubts about trusting the website disappear? Sort of — the yellow box was there — but my doubts about in-store treatment didn’t. I’m actually kind of glad it happened because it clarified where I’ll spend my money from now on; Carls Golfland and the new PGA Tour Superstore in Novi are getting more of my visits. If I had one tip for others: call ahead if it’s a specific colour or limited stock, and if someone accuses you out loud, stay calm and walk away — you deserve better service.
