Stranded at 50 on the road
Stranded at 50 on the road
Policy changesthe sales folks had been patient and detailed, they walked me through the "Long Stay" option and I felt safe to leave without a return date. Fast forward a year, claim-free, riding across provinces, and I ring them to renew. That’s when it hit — they wouldn’t renew me. Reason? I’d turned 50 while already travelling. That blew my mind. I expected a heads-up maybe, a policy change, but not to be dropped mid-tour. It’s the one negative that colours the whole experience — you can be a perfect customer and still get left hanging. If you’re over 49 or planning more than a year, be careful. My advice: get everything in writing, ask directly about age cutoffs, and plan a backup. I liked how helpful the initial sales team was though; that’s what made this sting even more.
