Long, messy billing saga — take a breath before upgrading
Long, messy billing saga — take a breath before upgrading
CommunicationI paid for the pro plan, but the system (or someone) kept me on the DIY plan for days, kept charging or invoicing the DIY amount, and for a while it felt like no one was actually paying attention to my account. I spent more time chasing down billing than I did using the product. That billing mix-up is the detail that really stuck with me — it seems small but it ate so much time and patience. I reached out to my account manager several times; would get either radio silence or a note that the case was closed with a dash as the resolution. That’s not communication, that’s a shrug. After a week of this I asked to cancel and get a corrected final invoice. The account manager said he’d call that day — didn’t happen. I left voicemails, emailed billing and support, Cc’ed people — nothing useful. It’s oddly familiar: I’ve had upgrades handled smoothly at other companies, where someone actually follows through, so this felt especially sloppy by comparison. I even filed complaints with the BBB and the provincial Attorney General just to get some reaction — the BBB acknowledged they saw the complaint but the company still didn’t reply. Eventually I got through to someone else at the number I’d been given; that person checked and said my account was retroactively closed and there was no outstanding balance. Relief, yes, but also skepticism, because that person wasn’t the one I’d been dealing with and I have no idea what the internal handoffs looked like. So I’m holding off on celebrating until the dust settles and any regulatory follow-ups confirm I’m truly squared away. On the plus side, once I did reach that last contact they were able to confirm the closure and billing status, which felt like a small win. But overall, the lack of proactive updates, the delays in applying a payment, and the disappearing account manager were what made this a frustrating experience. If you’re thinking of upgrading, just be ready to follow up repeatedly and maybe use a credit card with good protections — and maybe don’t expect much proactive help if something goes sideways. I want to like the product, but the operational side needs work.
