Hometown grapefruit surprise
Hometown grapefruit surprise
CommunicationRight in the middle of unwrapping, I noticed the crate label said Florida. I’d picked this because the website made a point about Rio Red and Texas farms — wanted a little hometown flex for my sister’s birthday (born and raised in Texas), so yeah, instant eyebrow raise. I called customer service and they were polite but basically told me Texas fruit is phone-order only, which wasn’t mentioned online, and they’d refer it to marketing. Not great. But the fruit? Thick skin, easy to peel, heavy with juice, bright and a bit tart — perfect spooned over yogurt the next morning. I was half annoyed, half oddly pleased. They should be clearer about sourcing, but the grapefruit itself did what I hoped.
Small surprise, big relief
Small surprise, big relief
Servicethe person on the phone, Jeremy, actually took the time to sort it out with calm, even when I was grumpy. He apologized, checked details, and didn’t rush me. That’s the moment I felt proper relief — and I could breathe again. The package was handled carefully and everything inside was exactly what I needed for my aching back. The whole interaction left me pleasantly surprised. Small operation, sure, but they acted like they cared. I’m glad I gave them a shot. Would I use them again? Yes. I’m happy to recommend them to friends who need something dependable and a little human touch. It really made a difference.
Holiday gifts went badly wrong
Holiday gifts went badly wrong
QualityI wouldn't use them for corporate or family gift boxes again. We sent a holiday box of fruit and snacks to 19 families and every single recipient got damaged or spoiled fruit — not just a few, every one. I reached out by phone first and couldn't get a live person, so I emailed; they replied with a link to list the items that needed replacing. Eventually I did get someone on the phone who said they'd email the families and ask them to identify what was bad. That felt awkward and impractical — asking people to reply about a gift you sent them is a weird ask. I called back as reports kept coming in and was told replacements would be sent, sometime after the second week of January. Fine that they offered fixes, but it’s baffling a company that specializes in fruit would dispatch spoiled items in the first place. For context, we've used other vendors for group gifts in past years and never had this scale of problems; those companies were far more responsive. I appreciate the attempt to make it right, but right now I'm left inconvenienced and a bit embarrassed in front of the recipients. If you need reliable holiday gifting, I'd look elsewhere until they show they can control quality and communication.
A slow delivery and a moldy surprise

Quality
reviews online were mixed, and one time or two the fruit wasn’t great. I figured okay, worth a try since the grapefruit was usually fine and we eat them every week.
This last order made me rethink that trust. They told me they were holding the fruit to ripen, which sounded sensible, but it took nearly a month. When the box arrived half of the grapefruits were moldy or very close to it, and the rest were oddly hard and dry inside. No juice, just dry and mealy. I ended up throwing away about 40 pieces because I didn’t want to risk my family’s health — that wasn’t a small loss.
What bothered me more than the bad fruit was the reaction afterward. I reached out, expecting the usual guarantee steps, and then my next order got cancelled with no clear reason. They’d refunded (or not), it wasn’t clear, and they apparently won’t publish my negative reviews. That felt like being shut down instead of helped.
There are still a few decent past experiences in my history with them, so I’m not 100% turned off, but the way this was handled left me frustrated and more cautious. If you’re buying for daily family use and count on reliability, be careful. I’d want clearer guarantees and better follow-up before I’d trust them again — and I’d prefer transparent customer service if something goes wrong.
The moment the refund appeared
The moment the refund appeared
Follow-upI was standing at my kitchen sink with a trash bag full of squishy grapefruit and I remember thinking, ok, this is enough. I'd ordered from them a number of times over the last year and a half — mostly grapefruit, one pears incident that was awful — and usually it was fine, at least tolerable. But this last batch took forever to arrive because they said they'd wait until the fruit was ripe. When it finally showed up, half the box was moldy and the rest were hard and totally dry inside. I tossed close to 40 pieces. I wasn't risking anyone's stomach, so yeah, I threw them all out. Then I placed another order later and got an email saying they'd cancelled me and barred future orders. No explanation, no chance to return the fruit, and they apparently don't publish bad reviews. That was maddening. What finally made me feel satisfied — not happy, but satisfied — was when my credit card company stepped in and the refund hit my account. I remember checking my balance and feeling this weird relief, like at least someone acknowledged I didn't get what I paid for. It doesn't erase the waste or the time spent, and the company's behaviour still feels off and shady, but getting the money back was the moment I stopped stewing. If you're thinking of ordering, take pictures right away, keep receipts, and be ready to open a dispute if needed. Also, don't assume silence means it's okay — be persistent. It's not perfect service by any stretch; they could've handled it better, posted reviews honestly, and not cancel customers without a word. But the refund made me stop feeling like I had no recourse.
