I didn’t expect to be writing this, but here we are. After being a fairly happy customer for their wallpaper, I ordered upholstery fabric based on their guidance — their Performance Velvet was on the recommended list for commercial use and the product page said it stood up to heavy wear (50,000 double rubs was the number given). So we used it on bar stool backs in a low-traffic home setting. Five months in the fabric had rubbed through at the corners. Just the corners, oddly enough, but that’s where it failed. Five months, light use, and visible breakdown.
I asked Spoonflower for replacement fabric so we could reupholster the backs. Their staff kept pointing to the purchase date (two years earlier) and insisting the fabric wasn’t intended for bar stools, which felt off since they had recommended it and labelled it commercial-grade. We’ve been trading emails for over a week and a bit — nine business days with no real resolution, and my last follow-up was sent three days ago. They do reply within a day or two, so responses are timely, but they haven’t offered anything that fixes the problem. So customer service is responsive in speed but not in helpfulness.
This is disappointing because I did have good experiences with their wallpaper, which is why I trusted their fabric recommendation. Still, this experience makes me cautious about using their upholstery fabrics for any high-use seating. I’m willing to absorb labour costs to have the chairs done, but I asked them to supply replacement fabric (I calculated about $1,430.03) — a compromise that seemed fair to me. If it isn’t sorted, I’ll escalate via my credit card, the FTC, or small claims. Not dramatic, just practical. Frustrating, yes, especially given the mismatch between product claims and what actually happened.
