30 a.m., checking my phone because I’d been up since the 5 p.m. launch and thought, maybe, just maybe it worked this time. Spoiler: it didn’t. I’ll jump back a bit — PUR hyped a collab with a creator and everyone on my feed was excited, so I showed up right at launch only to hit an error screen. No redirection to a local site, no heads-up, just a shove to the US storefront and then silence from the brand for hours. When they finally posted, it felt like someone laughing into the void. By 10 p.m. I’m dumped into a queue of 5,567 people, told an hour wait, and offered an email that never arrived. I slept and woke up to find my turn had come and gone… great timing. Rejoined, queue ballooned to 10k+, and by 9 a.m. I finally got to add the palette to my cart. Cue the weirdness: basket keeps spitting the item out, sometimes it stays, I fill in my details, submit, and then it kicks me back out again. Eventually a sale goes through — or so I thought — and my bank shows two charges for the same palette. That’s the detail that really stung: being charged twice felt like a punch after a long night of digital ping-pong. As a single parent, £40 is not pocket change, so this wasn’t just annoying, it mattered. A little empathy would’ve helped — a clear note, staggered release, pre-orders, or at least splitting traffic across sites would’ve avoided the whole mess. Also, pause the launch if the site is failing; don’t make fans babysit your broken checkout. On the plus side, the palette looked promising in the screenshots, and I did feel a tiny thrill when I finally saw it in my basket. I wish PUR would sort refunds quickly and learn to coordinate better next time. If you’re thinking of trying a launch like this, maybe set a calendar reminder to not expect miracles and keep an eye on your bank — and maybe don’t plan other sleep around it.
