Epson, officially known as Seiko Epson Corporation, is a Japanese electronics company and one of the world's largest manufacturers of computer printers, and information and imaging related equipment. Founded in May 1942 as Daiwa Kogyo, Ltd., the company started as a watch manufacturing unit for Seiko Group. Its transition into the printing industry began in the 1960s with the development of the electronic printer. The brand name "Epson" was derived from the idea of the company being the offspring ("son") of the EP-101, the world's smallest electronic printer which was developed by the company. Over the years, Epson has expanded its portfolio to include inkjet, dot matrix, and laser printers, scanners, desktop computers, and projectors. Additionally, Epson is widely recognized for its advancements in the field of digital imaging and its sustainable technologies, including the development of high-capacity ink tank printers that reduce waste associated with cartridge use.
