a tiny stone pops out. Annoying, but not the end of the world.
I called the shop and spoke to Brandon. Nice bloke. He said come in, they’ll replace them, warranty covers it. That was a relief. For a minute I actually felt smug about having bought the extra coverage. My doubts melted away. Then today — cue the three kids, the half-hour drive — I went in to get the replacement. I expected a quick swap. Instead I’m told I have to pay an extra $15 to extend the warranty for another year after they replace the earrings. Wait, what? I already paid for a warranty that was supposed to cover this scenario.
Here’s where things go sideways. I get the replacement, which I’m grateful for, truly. But I left feeling like I’d been nickeled-and-dimed. Did the warranty really cancel just because the product was replaced under that warranty? That feels backwards. I tried to get help online so I wouldn’t have to haul everyone into the store, but no one could sort it out remotely. I had photos, receipts, everything. Still had to go in. That part was frustrating. My husband paid the $15 eventually — he’s the better person in our marriage, the sucker, whichever — but I wasn’t happy about it.
So: positives — replaced product, people in the store polite, Brandon did what he said he would. Negatives — unclear policy, surprise fee, poor online support, the extra trip. It’s left a bit of a sour taste. I’ll probably think twice before buying another warranty from them, even though I like the shop overall. I’ve had worse warranty experiences elsewhere where companies refused to help at all, so in comparison this wasn’t a disaster. I’m glad we got it sorted, but I’m also annoyed enough to tell friends and maybe post about it — not to rant, just to say be careful and ask the right questions up front. If they clarified the policy or fixed online support, I’d come back without the hesitation.
Clasp drama and a refund runaround
Clasp drama and a refund runaround
I wore the gift chain once and the clasp split while I was trying to unclasp it. Pretty wild. I bought a longer replacement and even paid for the warranty, thinking I'd be covered. Five days later the store staff told me I needed to return it for a refund and buy again; no direct swap. Online chat said a normal warranty exchange would be fine. They booked an appointment that was supposedly an exchange (they even called it 'ear piercing' in the booking). At the shop they still insisted on refund-and-rebuy. Been buying from them for years, so this was disappointing. I appreciate small businesses; other local jewellers handled a similar issue smoothly. Now I have a useless chain and less patience. Will take my business elsewhere. Annoying but human — I get mistakes, just not this kind. Feeling pretty fed up about it.
