Kayaks, penguins and a much-needed reset
Kayaks, penguins and a much-needed reset
Overalldo it — you won’t regret it. I booked this trip mostly to get away from the never-ending inbox and to do something totally different, and honestly it turned out even better than I’d dared hope. The ship felt clean and comfortable — not flashy, but in a good way, like a cosy home that happens to float through surreal scenery. The crew were the real deal: knowledgeable, easy to laugh with, and they clearly loved what they do. That made every landing and talk feel alive, not just scripted facts. Sea kayaking was my favourite (surprise), paddling quietly between blue ice and curious seals — I kind of apologized to a penguin for breathing too loudly, true story. Meals were solid and comforting after long days, cabins were snug enough to sleep like a log, and the common spaces were great for swapping stories with other travellers. There were a few small things — timing of transfers once, and a briefing that ran long — but nothing that spoiled the trip; you just roll with it out there. I’m grateful I booked it, grateful for the patience of the guides, and a little amused at how small my city worries felt afterwards. If you want wild landscapes, good people, and an actual chance to disconnect (and maybe get your kayak on), this was the best choice I made all year. Would do it again, for sure.
