Free trial charge
I decided not to renew my free trial on time, but I still got charged for the service. Even though I contacted my card company and sorted out the payment issue, I'm really disappointed in how this company handled things. This kind of dishonesty is not okay and shouldn't be accepted. Ancestry should really think about their partnership with Fold3.
British records search
As a customer searching for British records, I gotta say I felt like the platform was way too centered on American records and kinda had a bias towards them. It was a real challenge to find the British records I was after. The search bar wasn't easy to use, and even when I had a clear idea of what I needed, it was a struggle to locate it. The layout of the home page just added to the confusion and frustration of trying to dig up relevant British documents. Honestly, I felt like I wasn't really getting bang for my buck, especially when I compared it to other platforms that give more priority to British records.
British war records, unethical behavior
This company, a sister company to a well-known genealogy website, is boldly charging extra fees for access to British war records that used to be free on their main site. It's obvious that their top priority is making as much money from customers as they can, even if it means exploiting their loyal subscribers. What's more, they don't hesitate to take money from customers without permission, acting like digital thieves. Be cautious of this deceptive behavior and consider carefully before backing such unethical practices.
Year subscription
This company is totally bogus! I signed up for a year subscription and I haven't gotten anything at all. And their customer service is a joke. I tried reaching out on their website and Twitter, but they totally ignored me. It's a total scam. Don't go anywhere near this sketchy operation.
War records search
Using this website was super frustrating. I was trying to find war records from one country, but kept getting results from another country. Even when I tried to use filters, I just got bombarded with irrelevant stuff. It felt like a huge waste of time and energy trying to find what I needed on this website.
Military history documents
I thought I was getting a good deal by getting a bundle with Fold3, but man, was I let down. The documents were so limited, I could have found way more info for free somewhere else. They're just recycling stuff from other places instead of making their own content. Honestly, if I wanted to see the same things that are already out there, I wouldn't have bothered paying them. They need to step it up and give us something different and exclusive. If not, why even use their platform?
Cancelled subscription
I decided to cancel my subscription with this service not too long ago. I was really bummed to see that I still got charged even though I cancelled during the free trial period. It's super annoying to have to go through the whole process of getting a refund for a subscription that I didn't even want anymore. I also sent an email asking for some clarification, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
Cancelled membership still charged
I canceled my membership with them, but they keep charging me every month under a different name, ugh. I've tried emailing and calling them, but they have no record of my account or card. I even checked my ancestry account, but no dice. Now I'm stuck paying for a service I don't even use anymore. The only way out seems to be changing my debit card number, which is such a pain!
Chelsea Pensioner records
The records from the UK on this platform are displayed so poorly, it's impossible to read them. Trying to print them out doesn't really work either. I only lasted a month before I couldn't handle the frustration of trying to find anything.
Military records
Alright, so I was really looking forward to checking out my family's military records, but then I got really confused about what kind of membership I needed to access them on this website. I ended up creating an account, only to realize it was the wrong one! And now I can't even figure out how to delete the account or log out properly. It's so frustrating! Why can't they make it simpler for people to understand?
Week's free trial
I signed up for a week's free trial recently and ran into some issues with the auto-renewal feature. Even though I turned it off in my account settings and double-checked the expiry date, the auto-renewal somehow turned back on and charged me for another year's membership. I contacted customer service, not expecting much in terms of a refund, but to my surprise, they quickly refunded the payment without any trouble. While I'm grateful for the outcome, it seems like this problem happens often based on reviews I've read online. It would be helpful for them to fix this issue and make sure that account settings stay accurate to avoid similar situations in the future.
