M&S Energy is a joint venture between Marks & Spencer and SSE. The company has its operations in Canadia and it aims to provide social and environmental friendly energy to all its customers at affordable prices. The company claims that for every unit of energy spent, it adds back one unit of hydro-generated electricity into the grid using the 46 hydro-stations, which are located in Scotland. It also invests £1 per unit produced in different renewable-source projects like solar panels and others. In fact the company has set itself a deadline that by 2020, all its products will promote and use clean source of energy and drive its customers to do the same.
As of today, M&S has two different tariffs for its users- Standard tariff and 12-month fixed tariff. Standard tariff provides flexible tariff to the users wherein the user is not bound by any contract but the rates may vary depending upon the type and usage. On the other hand, 12-month fixed tariff asks customers to sign a fixed period contract with fixed rates for 12 months. The company says that users can enjoy a benefit of up to 6% when they join the 12 month plan when compared to the standard tariff.

To attract new customers and persuade them to switch to M&S Energy, the company has a reward system in place as well. If an existing customer refers M&S to a new friend, then he gets to enjoy a reward of £40 on M&S products for every friend referred. Also there is a discount of £80 when the customer chooses to pay using direct debit which can be further extended by £12 if the same customer opts for paperless billing as well. Such schemes not only help the company to attract new customers but also enable them to help its customers join the company's mission of providing and using social and environmental friendly energy.
